Media Mentoring Project -- Elayne Clift-- My Two Cents: Writing Opinion Editorials
"Don't get mad, get even!" Writing op eds. is an important way to participate in current events and to stimulate dialogue around issues that matter. This workshop will focus on writing clear, concise pieces that pack a punch and rise above the editorial clutter. We will practice writing so bring paper and pens!
This event is cosponsored by Brooks Memorial Library and the Media Mentoring Project. To find out more information and to register, contact Betsy Arney at 246-6397 or at betsy@commonsnews.org.

Prison Town, USA
6:00-8:30PM
Tuesday, March 23rd
Brooks Memorial Library
What happens when a struggling town invites a prison in?
Prison Town, USA tells the tale of the legacy of America's prison building frenzy on hundreds of rural prison towns that once invited them in. Through the voices and stories of lives directly impacted by "Prison Industries," laid-off mill workers, the local dairy owner, and a transplanted inmate family, this film captures the often unseen ripple affect that follows in the wake of a prison economy.
Co-sponsored by
Vermont Action for Political Prisoners (VAPP). VAPP demands freedom and amnesty for all US-held political prisoners. www.vermontactionforpoliticalprisoners.blogspot.com
And
The Brattleboro Community Justice Center (BCJC). The BCJC creates opportunities for community members to help repair the harm done by criminal behavior through Restorative Justice principles and practices. www.brattleborocjc.org
Featuring speaker Paul Wright, founder and editor of Prison Legal News (PLN). A 56-page monthly magazine, PLN reports on all things prison in the US, including prisoner civil rights cases and information about conditions of confinement in prisons and jails. Wright is an expert on prison issues, particularly prison privatization. www.prisonlegalnews.org
