    Contact: Brandon   412-882-6622   taperb2@einetwork.net

Please join us for this informal discussion that will touch on many topics --and even your heart.

Christine Mabon, a Pittsburgh wife and mother whose husband died unexpectedly at age 44, will speak about her experiences and her forthcoming book, Comfort Food – One Woman’s Journey to Understand the Meaning and Significance of Friendship, during this workshop on human relationships.

Though her story is one of personal pain and tragedy, Christine focuses instead on the ability of others to comfort and soothe.  Her workshop proves that pain can not be avoided or triumphed over --as if it were an obstacle or math test-- but that it is best confronted when surrounded by caring friends and strangers.

Because of her experience, Chris wants to share the vital lesson she learned: good friends can renew, restore and revitalize the spirit.

Stop by the Second Chapter Cafe and join other adults to watch a different film each week!  No registration required.

This week's selection is The Lunchbox, a charming film about friendship and fine food.  Middle class housewife Ila is trying once again to add some spice to her marriage, this time through her cooking. She desperately hopes that this new recipe will finally arouse some kind of reaction from her neglectful husband. She prepares a special lunchbox to be delivered to him at work, but, unbeknownst to her, it is mistakenly delivered to another office worker, Saajan, a lonely man on the verge of retirement.

Curious about the lack of reaction from her husband, Ila puts a little note in the following day's lunchbox, in the hopes of getting to the bottom of the mystery. This begins a series of lunchbox notes between Saajan and Ila, and the mere comfort of communicating with a stranger anonymously soon evolves into an unexpected friendship. Gradually, their notes become little confessions about their loneliness, memories, regrets, fears, and even small joys. They each discover a new sense of self and find an anchor to hold on to in the big city of Mumbai that so often crushes hopes and dreams. Still strangers physically, Ila and Saajan become lost in a virtual relationship that could jeopardize both their realities.

Run time: 104 minutes.

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions —or if you’re looking for a fun way to spend a couple of hours— join this program that devotes itself to discovering new films and rediscovering older ones. Each free film screening is accompanied by refreshments as well as an optional discussion following the feature for those who wish to dish on all things movies.

This month's selection is Nicholas Ray's 1956 feature, Bigger Than Life.  "Starring James Mason as a friendly, successful suburban teacher and father who is prescribed cortisone for a painful, possibly fatal affliction.  When he grows dangerously addicted to the experimental drug, his transformation into a psychotic and ultimately violent household despot threatens to destroy the homefront."

Not every film was made to win an Oscar, folks.  This special program celebrates the awesomely bad movies found only on late-night cable or in cardboard boxes at the flea market.  What makes a movie campy?

                                                                                                          - If the acting reminds you of rejected soap opera auditions.

                                                                    - If the story moves around more than a cartoon character on a banana.

                                                                                                                                                - If the music sounds like a toddler’s toy band.

Remember: Summer is meant for lazy relaxation.  So join us for a two-hour tribute to lazy filmmaking where we’ll sit back, relax, eat some pizza, and enjoy the show.  Or, well, we’ll try really hard to.

Stop by the Second Chapter Cafe and join other adults to watch a different film each week!  No registration required.

This week's selection is Get Low. Inspired by the true story of Tennessee recluse Felix "Bush" Breazeale, who planned his funeral while he was still alive, director Aaron Schneider's dramatic period thriller stars Robert Duvall, Bill Murray, Sissy Spacek, and Lucas Black. Few folks have spoken with Felix Bush (Duvall) since he disappeared into the Tennessee woods 40 years ago, and the ones who have don't necessarily have the kindest things to say about him. Gruff, confrontational, and ill-tempered, Felix has been the source of many malicious rumors over the years. Some say he's a cold-hearted killer and his penchant for walking into town with a shotgun, a wild beard, and threadbare clothes doesn't exactly give the impression of a man who seeks to make friends. When Felix walks into Frank Quinn's (Murray) funeral parlor and announces his intentions to throw himself a massive party before he passes away, word quickly spreads through town and anticipation starts to run high. Before long the big day has finally arrived, and Felix surprises everyone by revealing exactly why he shunned society to lead a life of solitude in the deep woods.

Well, me neither!

We all have certain things we would like to do or try, but we don’t because we’re busy, scared, or unsure how to begin.  Since these “little things” can build up, our new club is designed to take the time to try them as a group.  We’ll make our own list and try a different one each month!

Stop by the Second Chapter Cafe and join other adults to watch a different film each week!  No registration required.

This week's selection is Belle.  The film is inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate mixed race daughter of Admiral Sir John Lindsay in the eighteenth-century. Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield (Tom Wilkinson) and his wife (Emily Watson), Belle's lineage affords her certain privileges, yet her status prevents her from the traditions of noble social standing. While her cousin Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon) chases suitors for marriage, Belle is left on the sidelines wondering if she will ever find love. After meeting an idealistic young vicar's son bent on changing society, he and Belle help shape Lord Mansfield's role as Lord Chief Justice to end slavery in England.

Many critics say that we are now in a second Golden Age of television.  With so many choices, it’s easy to be left behind at the water cooler.  Join us then for a special series dedicated to . . . a special series!

Our first selection is that PBS period favorite, Downton Abbey.  We’ll work through the show's entirety until it’s time to watch the new season.

Go on and have an episode at your library!

**We'll provide a special "tea and biscuit" service to kick off the progran!**
