misc_usflag 1:00 PM We Were Quiet Once: A Special Film Screening Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend
    Contact: Brandon   412-882-6622   taperb2@einetwork.net

Sometimes history happens in your own backyard whether you want it to or not. . .

Join us for a special film screening about the effects a national tragedy can have on a local community –and how the human spirit endures and rises above even the worst of offenses against it.

We Were Quiet Once, a new film by local filmmaker Laura Beachy, shines a light on the folks whose daily lives and lifestyles were changed, first by the crash of United Flight 93 on September 11th and then by their hometown being turned into a national park and monument.

In their own words, the subjects of We Were Quiet Once show us that our personal responses to a tragedy –how we decide as individuals and together as a nation to process and heal – proves what kind of people we really are, and how far we’ll go to make things right.

Copies of the film will be available for interested parties to purchase.

Stop by the Second Chapter Cafe and join other adults to watch a different film each week!  No registration required.

This week's selection is And So It Goes starring Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton.  There are a million reasons not to like realtor Oren Little (Michael Douglas), and that's just the way he likes it. Willfully obnoxious to anyone who might cross his path, he wants nothing more than to sell one last house and retire in peace and quiet -- until his estranged son suddenly drops off a granddaughter (Sterling Jerins) he never knew existed and turns his life upside-down. Clueless about how to care for a sweet, abandoned nine-year-old, he pawns her off on his determined and lovable neighbor Leah (Diane Keaton) and tries to resume his life uninterrupted. But little by little, Oren stubbornly learns to open his heart - to his family, to Leah, and to life itself - in this uplifting comedy from acclaimed director Rob Reiner.

It’s easy to be intimidated by the classics, but there’s strength (and support!) in numbers and this group aims to prove it.

We’ll tackle another classic work each month to tease out its meaning and discuss whether the work "works" and if it deserves its place on history’s highest shelf.

So join now --and get classy!

---Please be sure to register online or by calling the library!---

Have you ever written a song?  Crafted a memory book?   Ever acted out a Shakespeare play?  Made a fancy dessert?

Well, me neither!

We all have certain things we would like to do or try, but we don’t because we’re busy, scared, or unsure how to begin.  Since these “little things” can build up, our new club is designed to take the time to try them as a group.  We’ll make our own list and try a different one each month!

So why get cross when you can cross off?
