    Contact: Denise   412-882-6622   ignaskyd@einetwork.net
Join us for a special author event and an introduction to the game of chess. Cheryl Hindman, author of The Pawn Queen will be our special guest. Ms. Hindman is a former advertising executive and graphic designer. She has written short stories, screenplays and poetry. This is her first children’s book. She resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her husband and four children.

Explore the basics of the game of chess through the observations of the ebony queen. Children will learn the names of all of the chess pieces, how they move and capture, the objective of the game, as well as key terms, such as checkmate, castling and en passant. Throughout the game, the queen observes the other players and briefly describes their actions. The queen thinks that she is mightier than all of the other pieces until one tiny piece, the pawn, puts her in her place. The overall message of the text is that the smallest, least powerful player can win the game.

This program is intended for small children, ages 4-6, as a brief introduction to key chess terms and concepts.

Books will be available for purchase. The first 5 families to register will receive a free copy of The Pawn Queen!
