Maizie and Hannah, English Springer Spaniels, are trained therapy dogs who volunteer at the library with their owner, Dure´ Alamed, as part of the Reading Education Assistance Dogs® program. R.E.A.D.® allows children the opportunity to practice their reading skills and gain self-confidence in a relaxing and fun environment by reading to these very special dogs, who are exceptional and very patient listeners! Parents may sign their children up for a 15-minute one-on-one slot or a 30-minute “group read” slot with a maximum of 3 children. A sign-up table is in the Youth Activity Room. It is recommended that you sign up in person and take a reminder slip home with you indicating the day and time your child is scheduled to read to Maizie or Hannah.
