This special evening meeting of Cookin’ the Books features The Broad Fork, a seasonal cookbook of 200 recipes designed to make the most of your farmers' market bounty, your CSA box, or your grocery produce aisle.  Please stop by the library to pick up a copy of The Broad Fork (or find a recipe from the book online), select a recipe, and then email your recipe selection to book club leader Lisa Crispin (lcrispin@mvlc.org). Bring your dish to the meeting, enjoy sampling everyone’s dishes, and enjoy the company.  Come hungry!   For anyone interested in fresh produce, the library is a pick up location for CSA shares from Framer Dave’s of Dracut starting mid-June.

This workshop is full--registration closed

Master rug maker Sally Arrigo, will teach participants how to make a small rug and in doing so will talk about color selections, how to join new strips of wool together, how to lace (sew) the rugs together so they will be completely reversible, and how to end the rugs.  Supplies provided.  This workshop is supported in part by a grant from Wilmington Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Learn the craft of hand lettering! This spring, we’ll focus on the art of drawing letters using different mediums and styles. Each class will build on techniques but can also standalone so feel free to just take one class or the whole series! We’ll practice cheater calligraphy, brush lettering, and hand lettering before learning how to emboss our hand lettering to make personalized cards and stationary.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a drone!?!  Tewksbury resident Jamie Boudreau, owner of Airgoz Aerial Photography, will debunk misconceptions surrounding drones (unmanned aerial vehicles). He will discuss: type of drones; price ranges; rules and regulations for operators; no fly zones; and uses for drones. Boudreau will also display his quadcopters, answer audience questions, and show some amazing aerial footage he's taken of Tewksbury.

Cheryl Amari, Founder and Owner of GriefTeach, a Tewksbury-based business will be presenting her findings on after-death communication (ADC).  When a loved one dies we often yearn to stay connected with them in some way. Some people report “signs” of their loved one’s presence, but is it really possible to communicate with deceased loved ones?  Presentation will distinguish between deathbed visions, near-death experiences, shared-death experiences and ADC.  She will also explore the various types of ADCs, review the latest research in the field and provide resources and further reading.

Drunken Logic, a “surprisingly cohesive blend of pop punk and emotionally-charged folk rock” (Sound of Boston) was formed at Berklee College of Music in 2012. Their acoustic trio will be here playing tracks off their two albums, Something New to Burn (2013) and Long Day’s Journey to the Middle (2014) along with popular crowd pleasing covers.  Salty snacks and two beers/hard cider included in ticket price.

Seng Ty, a survivor of the Khmer Rouge and author of Years of Zero, was thirteen when he made his way alone to a refugee camp in Thailand in 1981. His story was featured in Time Magazine’s article, which was read by an American family in Amherst, Massachusetts, who adopted him a year later. Now he is a citizen of the United States and an educator in the Lowell. He has shared his story on the Phil Donahue Show, many major newspapers, and CBS 60 Minutes.

Mary Recko, a survivor of the Holocaust, was born in Warsaw, Poland. In August of 1944 there was the Warsaw Uprising and the German army occupied the city.  The soldiers took her father, mother, younger sister and herself from their home.  Her father was separated from the family and sent to Buchenwald where he died in November of 1944.  The rest of the family was taken to Dachau and Bergen Belsen where they were detained until liberated in 1945. Mary, her mother, and sister came to the US in August of 1950 through the Catholic Relief Services and settled in Boston.
