Do your family albums contain historic photos that offer insight into Wilmington’s past? In particular photos prior to 1980 of:

  • local scenes and buildings
  • notable residents
  • social and sporting events
  • homes and neighborhoods
  • schools, churches and businesses

If you have these treasures, bring up to ten photos to the library’s Scan & Share Day. Items will be scanned while you wait. The library will keep copies of the scans for its digital archive where they will be available to all on the library's web site. Contributors who wish to have a copy of the scans for personal use are encouraged to bring along a flash drive to the event. Please register to assist with planning.  Items will be scanned on a drop-in basis.

A Walk Through the Delta is both an entertaining and educational overview of early 20th century southern music, primarily from the Black music of the day and its influence on the later jazz, rock music and even bluegrass. Songs are punctuated with foil humor while introducing the audience to the musical styles and key performers of this era. “Poor Howard” Stith has been performing 12-string barrelhouse blues for over forty years in the U.S., Europe, and Japan. His expertise, knowledge of early blues, and warm sense of humor have won him fans wherever he travels.  This show is not to be missed!

Spectrum Storytime is for children ages 3 to 5 who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  It is modeled after a traditional library preschool storytime with the addition of adapted and enhanced materials.  Each child must be accompanied by a caregiver who will be an active participant with the child.  Come share stories, songs, movement, and sensory fun in a flexible atmosphere that encourages participation on all levels!  Limit: 10 kids

Farmer Dave Dumaresq will lead a group discussion on the best ways to store, prepare and manage the summer vegetable bounty.  Great for anyone new to CSA as well as expert CSAers. Those that have used the service are encouraged to bring favorite vegetable recipes to swap and to share all of the tricks to use the CSA bounty.  Enter to win one week of a Farmer Dave’s spring share featuring greenhouse grown baby greens, root vegetables and more! 

The Wilmington Memorial Library, and Farmer Dave’s, a sustainable farm in Dracut, MA, have teamed up to bring locally-grown, fresh fruits and vegetables to Wilmington with a Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Consumers pay for shares of the harvest upfront, and in return receive freshly-harvested produce for 20 weeks, from mid-June through late October. Shares are ready for pick-up Thursday afternoons from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the library.

This presentation by Bill Gerber, who is on the Board of Directors of the Middlesex Canal Association and a past president, will provide an overview of the Merrimack River as an artery of transportation and show and describe what remains of the system today. Before they were adapted to power New England mills, the falls and rapids of the Merrimack River were serious obstructions to travel. These impediments, and the absence of good roads, drove more than a decade of efforts to improve river navigability.

Members of the Col. Charles McGee Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen from Hanscom Air Force Base will present a program on the history of the Tuskegee Airmen. The Tuskegee airmen were the first black servicemen to serve as military aviators in the U.S. armed forces, flying with distinction during World War II.  Before 1940, African Americans were barred from flying for the U.S. military. The highly publicized successes of the Tuskegee Airmen helped pave the way for the eventual integration of the U.S. armed forces under President Harry Truman in 1948.
