Amateur genealogist Bob Pearce, member of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists and long-time researcher, will discuss the process of researching your family tree using resources such as local records, Internet research, the Mormon Library, the National Archives, and international listservs.  Bob has traced his ancestry back to King Edward I in one line!  Discovering your roots is a fascinating process.  If you are interested in finding out who you are and where you came from, this mya be the place to start.

Windsor Locks High School alumna (calss of 1981) Nancy Danyluk Manning has successfully published a book of 50 poems (Amethyst Garden) and a young adult novel (Undertow of Silence).  Join this Windsor Locks native for a book talk and signing.  Manning currently lives in Connecticut with her husband and daughter.

Calling all mystery lovers!  The Windsor Locks Public Library welcomes cozy mystery authors Liz Mugavero, Edith Maxwell, and Barbara Ross, a group of New England writers who will present a lively discussion of mystery, mayhem, and the ups and downs of being a mystery author  Mugavero is the author of the Pawsitivly Organic Mysteries.  The first book in her series, Kneading to Die, was nominated for an Agatha Award for best first novel.  Maxwell is the author of several mystery series, inlcuding the Local Foods Mysteries and the historical Carriagetown Mysteries under her own name, and the Lauren Rousseau mysteries under the pseudonym Tace Baker.  Her short crime fiction, Just Desserts for Johnny, was recently nominated for an Agatha Award for best short story.  Ross pens the Maine Clambake Mystery Series.  Clammed Up, the first in her series, was nominated for an Agatha Award and a Romantic Times award, plus was a fianlist for the Maine Award for Crime Fiction.  What a great way to kick off a summer of reading and relaxing, New England style!  Please call 860-627-1495 to register.  Seating is limited.

Anne Canadeo is the author of the charming Black Sheep Knitting mystery series, featuring Maggie Messina.  She also writes Thomas Kincade's Cape Light and Angel Island series (writing as Katherine Spencer). Canadeo will discuss her latest Black Sheep mystery, The Postman ALways Purls Twice (published April 28, 2015).  In this 7th in the series, Maggie Messina's yarn shop in Plum Harbor, MA becomes the setting for a big budget Hollywood movie featuring A-list stars and lots of glamour.  Once filming begins, though, accidents abound on set until finally one cast member meets their maker.  Maggie and her crew crew of avid knitters investigate, hoping to unravel the killer's deadly plot before any more murders can happen.  Mystery lovers and knitters alike wil enjoy meeting Ms. Canadeo and sharing her adventures in writing and knitting.  Please call 860-627-1495 to register.

The Body in the Piazza by Katherine Hall Page is the Christie Capers mystery book club's selection for this month.  This series is set in the Boston area feathures caterer Faith Fairchild, wife of a minister. Copies of the books will be available at the circ desk one month before the meeting. Roberta Isleib is not only a wonderful mystery writer, but a clinical psychologist as well.  Writings as herself, Roberta is author of the Cassie Burdette golf mystery series (written in part to justfy her own love of golf) and the Advice Column mysteries featuring Dr. Rebecca Butterman.  She is also currently working on the Key West Food Critic mysteries under the name of Lucy Burdette.  The latest Key West mystery, FATAL RESERVATIONS, is due out on July 7, so what better time could there be to meet this award-winning New Jersey-born author?  Come ands join our Christie Capers group in welcoming Roberta Isleib to the Windsor Locks Public Library!

Have you ever considered writing about a significant event in your life to hand down to your children or having your story published?  In 2013 Jacqueline Masumian published a memoir, Nobody Home, about her childhood with a difficult mother and her eventually confrontation with a dark family secret. Ms. Masumian will read a short chapter from her book and discuss the fascinating process of writing memoir for publication or for preservation of family histories.  Copies of her book will be available for sale and signing at the program.  Aspiring memoirists won't want to miss this program!  Please call 860-627-1495 to register.

Welcome to BookBuggs, a new kind of book club! Come prepared to share with the group information (title, author, and a brief personal review) on novels or nonfiction that you have recently read and enjoyed, or even longstanding favorites. Everyone will have at least five minutes to speak, but no one is required to share if they prefer just to listen and enjoy. Bring a notebook to record the details of anything that sounds interesting for future reading. BookBuffs will meet on the first Tuesday of each month.
