    Wood Library closes at 5pm on November 11 for Veterans Day but we've got a special online video event that you can watch anytime, anywhere from home or library computer or on your laptop using library wi-fi connection. Veterans Day Tribute Online includes a video of author Nancy E. Lynch talking about her book Vietnam Mailbag: Voices from the War, 1968-1972. The original program was held at Wood Library on October 14, 2009. The second feature is a free PBS documentary The Medal of Honor. There's opportunity for you to leave your comments. To view the videos, you'll need a high speed internet connection. Wood Library's Veterans Day Tribute Online will be available all month beginning November 1 at http://woodlibraryhome.blogspot.com/

    More than twenty local photographers from the Finger Lakes Photography Guild will host an exhibit of their work from November 10 through December 18. Fine art photography will be on display in the Community Room during regular library hours. Call ahead for availability as the room is also used for other events. Many of the images capture the unique beauty of our region. The public may view the varying styles and techniques of individual Finger Lakes Photography Guild members. Most of the displayed images will be offered for sale. The Guild is also inviting the public to an informal Reception which will be held in the Library December 2 from 6 to 8pm. Photographers will be present for discussion of their work.

    Bill Dewey from the Gossamer Wood Healing and Retreat Center will present a two-part series on the spiritual significance of the end of the Mayan Calendar in 2012. Is it the end, the beginning or both? Bill will be showing a DVD presentation based on a talk presented by Ian Xel Lungold in White Horse, Yukon, Canada. Followed by discussion. Part 2 will be held Monday, November 30 at 7pm.

"Lungold takes a complex subject such as the Mayan Calendar and makes it very easy to understand on a personal spiritual level."

Find out about new fitness books and DVDs you can borrow from the library. Then, take a 30 minute group walk in the neighborhood or indoor activity if bad weather.     Haven't gotten enough of Last Night on Earth, Blokus, or other strategy games? On the last Thursday (some exceptions) each month, satisfy your hunger and play to your heart's content at Wood Library from 6:00-8:30 PM. Led by Canandaigua Middle School teacher John Michalko.     Explore the World of Art. Travel through time. All from the comfort of home on your computer, your schedule. For 8 weeks we will learn about art in different cultures and times using online videos from Annenberg.com. Then, we will meet for four live web discussions on Monday evenings from 7pm to 8pm. Your guide is Barbara Henry Adult Services Librarian. Email Barbara to register - "online art course" in subject line. Class size is limited to 18.

Guest speaker: On February 22, Meghan Schmidt, art scholar and educator from Hobart and William Smith, will join us online in the web meeting room to share her perspectives on how art helps to foster cultural understanding.
