misc_none 2:00 PM  -  3:00 PM Kate Whouley, Author 'Cottage for Sale, Must be Moved' Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

When Kate Whouley saw the classified ad for an abandoned vacation cottage, she began to dream: Transport the cottage through four Cape Cod towns. Attach it to my three-room house. Create more space for my work and life. Smart, single, and self-employed, Kate was used to fending for herself. But she wasn't prepared for half the surprises, complications, and self-discoveries of her house-moving adventure. Sketched with a deft hand and told with an open heart, Cottage for Sale is a deeply personal story that captivates, inspires, and delights. In one remarkable year, Whouley moved a cottage and created a home. Once you cross the threshold, you'll never want to leave. This is the tenth anniversary of the release of the paperback edition of her book, making this a great time to hear her story.

Contact: Emily Milan, Staff Librarian   508-430-7562 ext. 4   emilan@clamsnet.org

This evening's workshop is intended to be a hands-on introduction for using your iPhone, iPad, or other other mobile device to express yourself photographically.  The emphasis will be on moving beyond the built-in (“native”) camera app in order to be able to make enhanced and creative images that reflect how you see the world. After a general introduction on how iPhone photography is different from traditional photography, several photographic apps with various purposes will be introduced and you will have the opportunity to practice using these with the assistance of the workshop leaders. The emphasis throughout will be on practical rather than technical issues; you don’t need to be an experienced photographer. The goal is to show you how to make creative images on your mobile phone that are more than just snapshots.

    Contact: Suzanne Martell   (508) 430-7562 x7   smartell@clamsnet.org

JUMPIN' JUBA, together since 1998, plays a unique mix of blues and roots-y rock & roll tunes, with flavors from many other genres (folk-Americana, Latin, Caribbean, jazz and country) stirred into their blue stew. STEVE HURL brings a songwriter's focus to the band's many blues-inflected styles . He plays a tough, sensuous guitar, and bends his slightly raspy voice around blues melodies with nuance and conviction. BRUCE WARD is a REAL piano player. He plays with a pounding precision reminiscent of Otis Spann, Prof. Longhair, and Jimmy Yancey. He's adept at Blue Note label-type jazz-blues amalgams, and lately, has developed an affinity for Cuban jazz flavors. BRIAN FLAN is equally at home playing in a theatre or a roadhouse. His drumming is solid, tasteful, funky, with an excellent sense of swing. Concert will move inside to Brooks Free Library in case of rain with limited attendance.
