You are concerned about a loved one with Alzheimers -- Music is the great equalizer. It is available to every person, no matter the ability or age. It is a creative tool that can be manipulated to meet the needs of every individual. Music is engaging and motivating and encourages socialization, communication, and self-expression. Music therapy is an established health profession that uses music to address the physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and communication needs of individuals of all ages. The inherent structure of music provides a safe and inviting environment in which individuals may explore, participate, or simply relax. Music therapy interventions can be designed to improve communication, manage stress and reduce pain, express ideas and feelings, promote physical rehabilitation, enhance memory, and promote wellness. Eve Coulter Montague, Board Certified Music Therapist from SSC, will lead this informative, interactive program of how music therapy can be used to reach those living with dementia and their caregivers.

October is Archaeology Month!! Celebrate with us as The Minot Light Underwater Archaeology Project takes participants back to April, 1851 when “The Perfect Storm” of that era took down the original spindle Minot Light with the loss of both lighthouse keepers.  We then follow scientists as they search for and discover the remains of this historic light resting in over 40 feet of water off the coasts of Cohasett and Scituate.  Exclusive underwater photographs will show viewers how divers confirmed the location by comparing the images to lithographs from the designer of the 1851 light house.  Underwater photographer for the project, Robert Michelson, will present.

Don’t be scared of those old cemeteries! They are unique and interesting places full of folk art and history found only in New England!

“Welcome to The Graveyard” is a virtual tour, taking us from colonial burial grounds, through the rural cemetery movement of the 19th century and into 21st century locations. This presentation will have a special focus on East Bridgewater’s cemeteries. It also examines why we have cemeteries and gravestones, why they look like they do, and how styles and art have evolved over almost 400 years.
