Award-winning first-run independent and foreign films are now available at Moon Township Public Library. For the first time local film fans may go to their local library to see the latest releases from Cannes and Sundance through an innovative subscription DVD service called Film Movement. Each month Film Movement releases a new film to the Moon Township Public Library. Films are released on DVD at the same time as they open in theaters. As a result, film fans everywhere are able to see the first-run releases. Film Movement also grants performance rights to libraries to show the films on-screen at the library.

November's film is For My Father.

Tarek, a Palestinian forced on a suicide mission in Tel Aviv to redeem his father’s honor, is given a second chance when the fuse on his explosive vest fails to detonate. Forced to spend the weekend in Tel Aviv awaiting its repair, Tarek must live amongst the people he was planning to kill. To his surprise he connects with several Israelis on the outskirts of society, including the beautiful Keren, who has cut off contact with her Orthodox family and upbringing. With nothing to lose, Tarek and Keren open up to one another, and an unlikely love blooms between two isolated and damaged individuals raised to be enemies.

However, with the deadly load of explosives still strapped to him, he must spend 48 hours in the city, caught between the men that sent him—who can blow up his bomb remotely--, the Israeli police patrolling the streets and his new-found companions. Spending this time with Keren and his new friends, Tarek discovers the spark of life returning to fill his soul, and when the weekend ends, Tarek must make the decision of his life.

This month's selection is Catcher in the Rye . It is a 1951 novel by J. D. Salinger. Originally published for adults, the novel has become a common part of high school and college curricula throughout the English-speaking world; it has also been translated into almost all of the world's major languages.Around 250,000 copies are sold each year, with total sales of more than sixty-five million. The novel's antihero, Holden Caulfield, has become an icon for teenage rebellion.

The novel was among the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005 as chosen by Time, and named by Modern Library and its readers as one of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. It has been frequently challenged in the United States for its liberal use of profanity and portrayal of sexuality and teenage angst. Read it and see what all the fuss is about!     Do you love to cook and love looking at cook books, but really never have the chance to make anything? This is the club for you.

Library staff will be choosing a featured cook book once a month. You just need to peruse the book and choose a tantalizing recipe. Each member of the club will make one dish and bring it to the meeting to try.

First we will eat. After eating, we will rate the recipes and the good ones will be saved and collected. After the library has enough recipes, we will put them together and share them with the group. Sounds like fun, right?

This month's cook book is Betty Crocker's New Christmas Cookbook. This cook book is available in the library where you can look at the recipes. Unfortunately, you can’t check it out or it wouldn’t be around for anyone else, but the library will be happy to make a copy of any recipe for you for free. You can also order a copy from a neighboring library and can pick it up in a few days.

Please help make this new club a success, join us and come hungry. Please register.

This month's film is Troubled Water.

Jan, recently released from prison after serving time for the murder of a child, has always maintained his innocence and is ready to put the past behind him. A gifted organist, he takes a job at an Oslo church under his middle name, Thomas. His talent and gentle manner quickly earn him the respect of his superiors, as well as the love of the pastor, Anna. Thomas even overcomes his initial panic to return the affection of Anna's young son, Jens. But his past catches up with him when Agnes, a local teacher, comes to the church on a school visit and recognizes the organist as Jan, the young man who was convicted for the murder of her son.

The monthly cook book is available in the library where you can look at the recipes.

The monthly cook book is available in the library where you can look at the recipes.
