Come discover the calming effect of coloring at Pages to Color the Southington Library’s Adult Coloring meetupTuesday and Thursday mornings, 10:00 a.m. to noon and Tuesday evenings 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. It is the latest stress busting trend for adults.  While it may seem a recent craze, therapists have recommended adult coloring to negate stress and negative emotions for years.

The coloring sessions at the Library are FREE, unstructured times for adults, 18 and over. The Library provides coloring pages, pencils and markers. Feel free to bring your own pencils and markers and coloring sheets.

Jane M. White, of Southington, will be exhibiting her watercolors and pastels during the month of July.
The title of her show is " From My Perspective".  Jane first started painting landscapes in the mid 1970's while taking classes from a local artist.  Other classes were taken at Arts & Crafts of Meriden Association, Southington Arts & Crafts Association, Guilford Handcrafts and Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Old Lyme CT.
All of the landscapes are of places she has traveled to and has photographed.  Each year, Jane exhibits her paintings in more than 20 art shows throughout Connecticut.  Besides painting, Jane manages The Gallery at The Orchards.  She does this through Southington Arts & Crafts Association.

The Southington Public Library is offering a new reason to visit the library during the summer, the “Books in a Jar” contests during July and August. The July contest begins Tuesday, July 5th.  The August “Books in a Jar” contest will begin Monday, August 1st. Only damaged, unrepairable books were used for these contests.

Each monthly contest there will be three jars, each containing one cut-up book. Complete an entry with your guesses of the three “Books in a Jar” titles to be entered in a drawing for a prize. You can shake the jars to see if you recognize the text, but you cannot open the jars. One entry per patron aged 18 or older. Answer the “bonus” question correctly to receive three extra entries in the drawing.

Visit the library and look for the “Books in a Jar” Contest display for more details. The July “Books in a Jar” Contest will end on Friday, July 29th. The winner will be drawn from the correct guesses on August 1st.  The August “Book in a Jar” Contest will end on Monday August 29th. The winner will be drawn from the correct guesses on August 30th.

There will be a Grand Prize drawing on Tuesday August 30th from the July and August “Books in a Jar” submissions with the correct guesses.

Catherine will have displays of old and new beekeeping equipment in addition to hand outs and honey recipes.

Catherine is a proud member of the Connecticut Farm Bureau and The Backyard Beekeepers Association as well as The American Beekeeping Federation.

The Southington Library will host Cheshire/Southington Probate Judge Matthew Jalowiec monthly at open public forums in the library meeting room. The public is invited to the free “Ask the Judge” forums beginning Friday, April 29th at 10:00 a.m. and continuing on the last Friday of the month through September 30th. 

Registration is suggested.  Judge Jalowiec will be available for approximately an hour in which the general public can ask all sorts of Probate questions.  The Judge cannot give specific legal advice; all his responses will be procedural in nature and contain a general overview of the law.

The Southington Public Library is offering a new reason to visit the library during the summer, the “Books in a Jar” contests during July and August. The August “Books in a Jar” contest will begin Monday, August 1st. Only damaged, unrepairable books were used for these contests.

Each monthly contest there will be three jars, each containing one cut-up book. Complete an entry with your guesses of the three “Books in a Jar” titles to be entered in a drawing for a prize. You can shake the jars to see if you recognize the text, but you cannot open the jars. One entry per patron aged 18 or older. Answer the “bonus” question correctly to receive three extra entries in the drawing.

Visit the library and look for the “Books in a Jar” Contest display for more details. The July “Books in a Jar”  The August “Book in a Jar” Contest will end on Monday August 29th. The winner will be drawn from the correct guesses on August 30th.

There will be a Grand Prize drawing on Tuesday August 30th from the July and August “Books in a Jar” submissions with the correct guesses.

The Open Public Forums was changed to today because the library will be closed next Friday, August 26th.

The Southington Library will host Cheshire/Southington Probate Judge Matthew Jalowiec monthly at open public forums in the library meeting room. The public is invited to the free “Talking Probate” forums at 10:00 a.m. and continuing on the last Friday of the month through September 30th. 

Registration is suggested.  Judge Jalowiec will be available for approximately an hour in which the general public can ask all sorts of Probate questions.  The Judge cannot give specific legal advice; all his responses will be procedural in nature and contain a general overview of the law.

Learn some yoga moves to energize your body as we move forward through spring. Move through standing twists to detoxify and cleanse, as well as restorative postures to ground, center, and connect as this new season unfolds. Together we will flow step-by-step through our poses to build balance, increase flexibility, and welcome the change of season. Some yoga experience is helpful, but not necessary. 

Instructor Molly Virello has received her Yoga Teacher Certification. While being a Children's Librarian at the Southington Public Library she has taught yoga, enjoys rock climbing, storytime, dressing up as a Disney princess, and all the calming effects that yoga has on her otherwise over-active mind.

Join us at the Southington Public Library for an afternoon which empowers women and men to take control of their breast health by learning the latest advances in Breast Cancer Screening, Breast Cancer Risk Assessment, and Genetic Testing. Meet breast surgeon, Dr. Sai Varanasi, of the Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness, as she discusses breast cancer, signs and symptoms, and current breast cancer treatments; and learn ways to reduce and manage breast cancer risks. A question and answer session will help dispel myths about breast cancer and provide clear information about breast health.
