misc_none 3:00 PM  -  4:30 PM Mystery Book Discussion Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

Carole Shmurak returns to present another mystery series: An Inspector Calls

An Inspector Calls, a play written by English dramatist J. B. Priestley and first performed in 1946 in the UK, is considered to be one of the classics of mid-20th-century English theatre. Priestley’s inspector had a supernatural, socialist agenda, but our three inspectors — Morse, Dalziel, and Wexford — have no agendas other than discovering the truth, bringing the criminal to justice, and entertaining the reader.

October 13:
Bones and Silence by Reginald Hill

Reginald Hill’s Superintendent Andy Dalziel is one of British mystery’s most colorful characters: beer-swilling, blasphemous and brilliant. Together with the more refined Inspector Peter Pascoe, Dalziel must solve a murder and prevent a suicide in this funny and complex novel.

Celebrate Native American Month with the vibrant soundscape of Native North America from the “heartbeat” of intertribal drums and “warble” of Native flutes to contemporary rock, hip-hop, and electronic music with Craig Harris.  Drawing on more than one hundred interviews with musicians, producers, ethnographers, and record-label owners, author, photographer, and musician Harris conjures an aural tapestry in which powwow drums and end-blown woodwinds resound alongside operatic and symphonic strains and Native infused rock, jazz, reggae, country music, blues, hip-hip, and electronic dance musicas he gets the audience involved in his Drum Away the Blues program.   A skilled hand drummer, he's appeared in concert and/or on recordings with Rod MacDonald, C.J. Chenier & His Red Hot Louisiana Zydeco Band, and is currently  a member of  the Standing Bear Jam Band and the Gaea Star Band. Possessing a Master’s in education, Harris taught music in public and charter schools for a quarter of a century before launching his multicultural, participatory, and fun-for-all-ages Drum Away the Blues program in 2009.

Veterans' Day 2016 is a federal holiday (previously known as Armistice Day) observed annually on November 11, not only in the United States but in many other countries throughout the world. In the United States, it is a day that honours all men and women that have served as military veterans in the United States Armed Forces. Additionally, Veteran's Day 2016 is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended the World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918. Veterans Day 2016 should not to mistaken with Memorial Day; Veterans' Day celebrates the service of all United States military veterans, while Memorial Day honours those who died while in military service.
