Local artist, Alfonso Caliendo, will teach adults how to create unique Newspaper Sculptures. Samples of Mr. Caliendo's work will be on display for inspiration, and all supplies will be provided. Just bring your imagination and learn a new way to sculpt while relaxing with the therapeutic motions of working with newspaper.

Space is limited to 15 adults. Please register beginning June 13.

This program encourages parents/caregivers and their young children to play together and make new friends in a comfortable, community setting. The Community Room at Main Library is filled with toys and books. Youth Services Librarian, Diane Sebastian, is on hand to interact with the children and answer parent's questions about early childhood literacy, library resources, story hours and more.

This program is for children up to three years of age, but older siblings are also welcome. Registration begins July 18. When registering please indicate how many family members will be attending.

Come to the Louise Childs branch and play our life-size version of Chutes & Ladders.

It's Chutes & Ladders like you've never seen it before, but it's only for 12 players entering Kindergarten through 3rd Grade. To get in on the fun you must register beginning August 9.

Local yoga instructor Jane Bielen Schear teaches a weekly yoga and meditation class for adults in the community room at Main Library. The yoga portion begins at 11:00 and runs for about 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Participants need not stay the entire time. You can attend the yoga portion alone, come at Noon for the meditation or stay for the whole class.

This is a free program. No previous experience is necessary. Wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

No registration is required, but make sure you exchange contact information with Jane the first time you attend to be contacted about any scheduling changes. The group meets every Saturday except the third Saturday of the month.

Boomer, the golden retriever, is back this summer and will be patiently waiting in the Community Room at Main Library every Monday for children, ages 5-10, to come read him stories. 

Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. Boomer provides an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading.

Each child signs up for a specific time slot: 2:00, 2:15, 2:30 or 2:45. Registration is in person or over the phone by calling the Main Library at 973 948-3660. Register early, slots fill up quickly. Please arrive on time with a couple of books to read or early enough to pick out some library books.

Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. The dogs provide an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. The dogs never interrupt or criticize!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot:  4:00, 4:15, 4:30 or 4:45. Registration begins August 12 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Louise Childs Branch at 973 770-1000. Register early, slots fill up quickly.


Please arrive on time with a couple of books or early enough to pick out some library books.

The LC Readers will meet the first Wednesday of selected months from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Group picks will focus on thought-provoking, enjoyable, contemporary literature with occasional discussion of classical literature and notable nonfiction as well.

For our September meeting the group will read and discuss The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin. The book is available throughout the Sussex County Library System including in eBook format. This will be the last meeting for Gaming at the Library until next fall, but keep your eye on the calendar for the first meeting of our new Technology Club which will be taking over this time slot in October.

Join in the fun at Franklin and learn to play Rampage, a 3D board game of dexterity, strategy and addictive fun! Up to four players each take control of a monster trying to destroy Meeple City. Mark Miladinovich of MarkoramaGames.com, will be on hand to direct the play. He'll also help the group explore other gaming ideas for future play.

Rampage is for players 8 and up. There's a maximum of 8 players for Rampage but other games will also be available. Please complete a separate registration for each player, noting the age on each so that we will have appropriate games on hand.

Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. The dogs provide an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. The dogs never interrupt or criticize!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot:  3:45, 4:00, 4:15 or 4:30. Registration is underway and is in person or over the phone by calling the Main Library at 973 948-3660. Register early, slots fill up quickly.

Alfonso Caliendo returns to Franklin Branch Library tonight to help those who attended the August 21st class finalize and paint their newspaper sculptures, and to introduce the therapeutic art of newspaper sculpting to a new audience as well.

All supplies will be provided and samples of Mr. Caliendo's art will be displayed for inspiration and enjoyment.

This free class is for adults. Space is limited to 10 newcomers plus any enthusiastic artists who need to return and finish the sculptures they started last month. If you are new to the class please register below.

Local yoga instructor Jane Bielen Schear teaches a weekly yoga and meditation class for adults in the community room at Main Library. The yoga portion begins at 11:00 and runs for about 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Participants need not stay the entire time. You can attend the yoga portion alone, come at Noon for the meditation or stay for the whole class.

This is a free program. No previous experience is necessary. Wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. The dogs provide an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. The dogs never interrupt or criticize!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot:  4:00, 4:15, 4:30 or 4:45. Registration begins September 9 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Louise Childs Branch at 973 770-1000. Register early, slots fill up quickly.


Please arrive on time with a couple of books or early enough to pick out some library books.

Local yoga instructor Jane Bielen Schear teaches a weekly yoga and meditation class for adults in the community room at Main Library. The yoga portion begins at 11:00 and runs for about 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Participants need not stay the entire time. You can attend the yoga portion alone, come at Noon for the meditation or stay for the whole class.

This is a free program. No previous experience is necessary. Wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

No registration is required, but make sure you exchange contact information with Jane the first time you attend to be contacted about any scheduling changes. The group meets every Saturday except the third Saturday of the month.

The club will meet the 4th Tuesday of each month in the community room at Main Library. The selection for this month has not yet been announced.

Local yoga instructor Jane Bielen Schear teaches a weekly yoga and meditation class for adults in the community room at Main Library. The yoga portion begins at 11:00 and runs for about 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Participants need not stay the entire time. You can attend the yoga portion alone, come at Noon for the meditation or stay for the whole class.

This is a free program. No previous experience is necessary. Wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

No registration is required, but make sure you exchange contact information with Jane the first time you attend to be contacted about any scheduling changes. The group meets every Saturday except the third Saturday of the month.
