Herbie the Miner, the beloved mascot of the Sussex County Miners baseball team, will be making appearances here and at the Main Library (May 21 at noon). Children in first grade and older are invited to join us as we read a baseball book, make crafts, play games and pose for pictures with this gentle giant of baseball.

Oh, and did we mention Crackerjacks? Of course we'll be eating Crackerjacks.

Children ages 5-10 are invited to the Sussex-Wantage Branch to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. Therapy dogs provide an uncritical ear while the child gains self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skill and a love of reading. The dogs never interrupt or criticize!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot: 6:30, 6:45, 7:00, or 7:15 p.m. Registration is in person or over the phone by calling the Sussex-Wantage Branch Library at 973 875-3940. Please arrive on time with a couple of books to read or early enough to pick out some library books.

The Friends of the Sussex-Wantage Library will host a special performance by High Point High School's Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band led by band director James Aslanian. The program will feature selections by Cole Porter, Sammy Nestico, Thad Jones, Charles Mingus and more.

The Ensemble and Jazz Band are comprised of approx. 30 students from the Concert Band who have auditioned to be in the group. Ranging from freshmen to seniors, they are focused on learning and mastering the stylistic and technical challenges of jazz music.  The Jazz Ensemble recently traveled to Boston for the WorldStrides Heritage Festival.  They received silver ratings at both the WorldStrides Heritage Festival and at the West Milford Jazz Festival this past year.

Please bring your own chairs and blankets to enjoy this free outdoor program suitable for all ages.  Picnickers are welcome, but alcohol is strictly prohibited.  Advance registration is not required.  In the event of inclement weather, the program will be cancelled.

Stop by the Dennis Branch tonight, anytime between 6 and 7:30 pm, for a personal tutorial on how to use your device to access the electronic resources on our website. No registration is required, just drop in with your device and a desire to learn.

Before you come, your device must have basic setup completed and be charged (bring the power cord if you're not sure). Please bring your library card, email address and password, and the password you use to access the App or Google Play store (but don't worry, library apps are free).

Advice for Your Device will be held the second Monday evening of each month. If your Mondays are full, call Mary Martin at 973-383-4810 to make an appointment at a time convenient to you.

Our LEGO collection continues to grow. Builders in Kindergarten and up are invited to attend monthly LEGO Club meetings being held at the times and places listed below:

Work alone, bring a friend, or even make new friends as you build, rearrange and demolish your LEGO creations. Please register on the listing(s) for the day(s) you'd like to attend. All registrations begin June 3.

Children ages 5-10 are invited to practice their reading skills the 4th Tuesday of every month by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog. Each child will be allowed a full 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time. The dogs provide an uncritical ear while the children gain self-esteem, confidence, public speaking skills and a love of reading. The dogs never interrupt or criticize!

Each child signs up for a specific time slot:  4:00, 4:15, 4:30 or 4:45. Registration begins June 14 and is in person or over the phone by calling the Louise Childs Branch at 973 770-1000. Register early, slots fill up quickly.

Please arrive on time with a couple of books or early enough to pick out some library books.
