misc_none 6:00 PM  -  7:30 PM Social Security Workshop Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

In the last five years, Doug Wright has noticed a dramatic increase in people asking him when they should take Social Security. The decisions are more complex than you might think and will have an impact over what you will receive for the rest of your life. There are 2,728 rules and 567 ways to claim benefits. The wrong decision can cost you $100,000 or more in lost Social Security benefits. Come hear Doug Wright speak about Social Security and learn how to make the most of your Social Security benefits. There are now more dramatic changes proposed for social security.

Doug Wright has been helping folks prepare for retirement for over 14 years.  He is a Fiduciary and holds the designation of Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor.  He specializes in educating people on Social Security and to understand all the filing strategies.  Social Security is a fantastic government program but there are over 2,728 rules and 567 ways to file.  Social Security is now more complex than the IRS tax code.  Filing at the wrong time can cost some families tens of thousands of lost benefit dollars.  Doug speaks throughout New Hampshire on social security and other retirement concerns.  He offers a no-cost or obligation workshop to learn more.

Read to a DOG? Not just any dog....

Certified Therapy Pets are a wonderful way to encourage reluctant readers and children having difficulties with reading to become more confident in their ability to read. The use of Therapy Pets in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes has been shown to decrease anxiety, lower blood pressure and promote relaxation; the same premise applies to children with reading difficulties.

For those children who cannot yet read on their own, parents & caregivers are invited to read with their children.

No registration required.

Tax-Aide volunteers (IRS Certified) are trained to assist with filing the 1040 Form and the more standard of the schedules, including Schedules A and B. Electronic filing (e-filing) is offered at the Wadleigh Memorial Library site, with no charge to the taxpayer. E-filing ensures more accurate tax returns and faster processing of tax refunds.

misc_none 7:30 PM  -  9:30 PM Acoustic Cafe presents Kenn Morr Band Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

The Kenn Morr Band is touring in support the double-disc set “Afterimage” featuring fresh acoustic interpretations of material from eight previous releases.

Kenn left his native Long Island and found in Connecticut a home, and the band that brings his music to life: Percussionist Bob Gaspar, violin virtuoso and multi-instrumentalist Tom Hagymasi and melodic bassist Pat Ryan. The KMB is known for vocal harmonies and fiery instrumental interplay. They’ve played gigs of every stripe sharing the stage with John Sebastian, Al Kooper, Eric Burdon, and John Wesley Harding.

Morr was inspired by Gordon Lightfoot, Simon and Garfunkel, Graham Nash, and Jackson Browne. He’s got a rich baritone and the kind of humor and charisma that enthralls audiences of all sizes, from coffeehouses to stages as demanding as the famed Bitter End in New York City and the International Festival of Arts and Ideas in New Haven.

With airplay across the country and Europe (England, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, among other countries), “Afterimage” is set to bring the Kenn Morr sound to new listeners.

Doors Open @ 7 PM ~ Performance @ 7:30 PM

The Acoustic Café showcases regional acoustic musicians and is generously sponsored by the Wadleigh Library Trustees and Friends of the Library.  Free and open to all, it is held the 3rd Saturday from October thru April.  All proceeds from coffee and refreshment sales benefit the café and the library.

Our selection this month is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks  by Rebecca Skloot.

Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells—taken without her knowledge—became one of the most important tools in medicine. The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, they are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than sixty years.    Publisher Description

Book clubs are a fun way to have your children form new friendships while engaging in activities that are geared to promote a love of reading.  What's more, membership in a book group can help children stay motivated to read if they otherwise have difficulty picking a book and sticking with it.

Tonight is our party for all the children who have attended Book Club throughout this year.

Our selection this month is Legacy of Ashes: the History of the CIA by Tim Weiner.

This is the book the CIA does not want you to read. For the last sixty years, the CIA has maintained a formidable reputation in spite of its terrible record, never disclosing its blunders to the American public. It spun its own truth to the nation while reality lay buried in classified archives. Now, Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Tim Weiner offers a stunning indictment of the CIA, a deeply flawed organization that has never deserved America’s confidence.  Publisher Description

Theresa Fersch did not consider herself an adventurer before her trip; yet somehow this smaller-than-average but larger-than-life woman, at the age of 34, found herself in the middle of rural Spain, having the adventure of a lifetime. Sunrise in Spain shares Theresa’s epistolary account of the most exciting moments of her journey across the 500-mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France, over the Pyrenees Mountains, and across Spain to the famous cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Are you looking for other yarn addicts? Do your Monday nights seem dull? Look no further! Join us for a drop-in stitch-fest on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month between 6:30-8:30pm. Don't have a project in mind? Can't seem to finish that scarf for Grandma? Or are you a complete beginner with an itch to stitch? Bring your project in & be inspired; if you're a beginner, your local craft store can help you select a project & requisite supplies. There will be no formal instruction but 'knitwits' are a helpful bunch and love indoctrinating the uninitiated into the cult of knitting. Tea, helpful company & oodles of knitting books will be served.
