Our monthly book discussion led by Trish Ferrara. We will be reading Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson. We'd love to have you join us!

You are about to travel to Edgecombe St. Mary, a small village in the English countryside filled with rolling hills, thatched cottages, and a cast of characters both hilariously original and as familiar as the members of your own family. Among them is Major Ernest Pettigrew (retired), the unlikely hero of Helen Simonson's wondrous debut. Wry, courtly, opinionated, and completely endearing, Major Pettigrew is one of the most indelible characters in contemporary fiction, and from the very first page of this remarkable novel he will steal your heart.

This is a very casual, social environment for parents who love to read. This month we'll be reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

Commonly shortened to Alice in Wonderland, this is an 1865 novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It tells of a girl named Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The tale plays with logic and is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre. Its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre.

As the culminating task, the museum sparks creativity and engagement as students apply their research to “bring it to life.” Students share their projects with teachers, parents/guardians, and the community at-large, by orally sharing personally written scripts about the figure’s life.

Youth in grades 5-8 are welcome to join us for the middle school book club! We will be discussing The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare.

Most kids would do anything to pass the Iron Trial. Not Callum Hunt. He wants to fail. All his life, Call has been warned by his father to stay away from magic. If he succeeds at the Iron Trial and is admitted into the Magisterium, he is sure it can only mean bad things for him.
So he tries his best to do his worst - and fails at failing.

Now the Magisterium awaits him. It's a place that's both sensational and sinister, with dark ties to his past and a twisty path to his future.
The Iron Trial is just the beginning, for the biggest test is still to come . . .
