Like reading WWII Non Fiction? We invite you to join our WWII Non Fiction Book Club.

This month we will be reading  Five Came back: A story of Hollywood and the Second World War by Mark Harris

A powerful wartime saga in the bestselling tradition of Flags of Our Fathers, BROTHERS IN ARMS recounts the extraordinary story of the 761st "Black Panthers," the first all-black armored unit to see combat in World War II. The racism that shadowed them during the war and the prejudice they faced upon their return home is an indelible part of their story. What shines through most of all, however, are the lasting bonds that united them as soldiers and brothers, the bravery they exhibited on the battlefield, and the quiet dignity and patriotism that defined their lives.

Children ages 9-14 are invited to an evening of adventure as they work together to find clues, solve puzzles, view holograms, and unravel a final riddle. The Friends of the Attleboro Public Library are sponsoring a scavenger hunt to raise money to help update the APL Childrens Room.  This event is based on the New York Times bestselling book Escape from Mr. Lemoncello‘s Library by Chris Grabenstein, about a fantastic library scavenger hunt created by an eccentric game inventor. The APL night will capture the essence of the book as kids race against the clock to solve the mystery by using the many resources at the library.

This event is designed not only to earn funds to refurbish the Children‘s Room but also to raise interest in the library.

Interested in supporting your local library while entertaining the kids?  Tickets cost $10 per child or $25 per family.  All participants will also be entered to win an autographed copy of the book (generously donated by the author).  Space is limited, so register now!

To register children aged 9-14 for the “Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library” Fundraiser, visit the Friends website and indicate how many children you are registering, then click the Pay Now button. Paypal will return you to our registration page. Tickets may also  be purchased in the APL Children’s Room.

This event is sponsored by the APL Friends and supported by APL staff, the AACS (Attleboro Access Cable System) and the Sun Chronicle.

Grades 1-6

For the past two years, the Attleboro Library has striven to add more STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) programming to our schedule.  These programs are a continuation of that goal.  During this program, older and younger kids will work in teams to meet specific physical and structural engineering goals.

We will provide the materials (cardboard, tape etc), the kids provide the ideas!

Kids of all ages (up to 14 years old) are invited to make an appointment to read to a certified therapy dog! Reading to a nonjudgmental, patient listener can give children the encouragement they need to improve their reading skills. The child’s confidence will grow in this relaxed environment.

Kids read in 20 minute increments and the only
requirement is that the child MUST be able to read (beginning readers are welcome). To make an appointment for your child, call the Children’s Room or email Mrs. Brown.
