When was the last time someone read you a story?
Rekindle that simple childhood pleasure.

The Attleboro Public Library Writers Group will be reading their memories of an unforgettable summer past.  There are stories that will take you to the beach, to a baseball park, and to a family gathering.  There are stories that will touch you with love, triumph, and joy. Come and hear their stories.  The writers with facilitator Bernadine Veiga have planned the evening to rekindle that simple childhood pleasure of storytelling.

You are invited! Join the celebration of their writings with a Meet the Writers Reception and Refreshments at 6:30.  Listen to the amazing stories with slide presentations.  Feel the passionate readings that will delight and entertain you on this summer eve.  And just perhaps even inspire you to take a glimpse into a life and to write your story, your life.  Please register online here.

Tonight we'll be discussing Suspect by Robert Crais

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well. Eight months ago, a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty—until he meets his new partner.

Maggie is not doing so well, either. A German shepherd who survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before losing her handler to an IED, her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s.

They are each other’s last chance. Shunned and shunted to the side, they set out to investigate the one case that no one wants them to touch: the identity of the men who murdered Stephanie. What they begin to find is nothing like what Scott has been told, and the journey will take them both through the darkest moments of their own personal hells. Whether they will make it out again, no one can say.

Join APL Adult Summer Reading for an All Ages evening with George Kelleher-Bianchi, who tells the history of when some Major League Players came to Attleboro for some "friendly" Attleboro/North Attleboro baseball games known as the Little World Series.

Between 1919 and 1923, Attleboro and North Attleboro staged over a dozen exhibition baseball games featuring scores of Major League ballplayers, including twenty future members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. These games gained national media attention, attracted players from every Major League franchise to travel to Attleboro, and transformed the area, for a few Saturdays in October, into the center of the baseball universe.

But what brought baseball legends like Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Rogers Hornsby, George Sisler, Grover Cleveland Alexander. and Eddie Collins to Attleboro starting in 1919? Why did they travel across the country at the end of long baseball seasons to play at Brady Field, Hayward Field, and Columbia Field? And why did the Little World Series suddenly end in 1923? To hear the answers, please join George Kelleher-Bianchi, a graduate of Attleboro High School, for an evening of local baseball history.

Our monthly book discussion led by Trish Ferrara. We will be reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. We'd love to have you join us!

This is a poignant and moving tale filled with compassion and cruelty, laughter and heartache, crowded with life and people and incident. The story of young, sensitive, and idealistic Francie Nolan and her bittersweet formative years in the slums of Williamsburg has enchanted and inspired millions of readers for more than sixty years.
