This month’s selection is "Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival by Laura Hillenbrand. "On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared. It was that of a young lieutenant, the plane's bombardier, who was struggling to a life raft and pulling himself aboard. So began one of the most extraordinary odysseys of the Second World War." ~ School Library Journal. This program is free to all; new members always welcome!

Join us for a fun-filled, humourous evening on our love/hate relationship with stuff.

Presenter Dave Downs will talk about why we have so much stuff, and will share practical tips and easy-to-understand strategies for "Clutter Busting."  De-cluttering is a process, not an event, and Dave will recommend multiple ways to approach, manage, and discard your possessions.  Each participant will leave the program with new ideas, methods and helpful hints about dealing with clutter.

Please note -- this presentation will NOT address hoarding.

Fans of the The Delvena Theatre Company's "Meet Julia Child!" show last January will be happy to hear that the acting troupe is returning this month with their performance of "Lizzie Borden and the 40 Whacks."

On a scorching hot day in Fall River, back in August of 1892, a heinous crime occurred.  Spinster Lizzie Borden was accused, tried, and acquitted for the vicious axe murders of her father and stepmother. This true unsolved mystery has fascinated people for more than 100 years. Two people died on that day in 1892, but Lizzie continues to live on in American folklore.

The live performance includes a mock trial that invites the audience to participate by questioning Lizzie, and voting on her guilt or innocence.  This “edutainment” production features Lynne Moulton and Joseph Zamparelli in multiple roles depicting Lizzie’s story and educating the audience members so that they may be informed “jurists”. Did she or didn’t she?  Let the audience be the judge.

The cast opens up to the audience for discussion after the performance.

PLEASE NOTE: This production is not recommended for children younger than 10 years old.

The Delvena Theatre Company has been entertaining audiences for more than 20 years with plays that are thought-provoking, often humorous, and always enriching.
