The Children's Museum of Easton brings their preschool Science-on-the-Go program Build It!
 

Structures and stability.  Design and construction. Get excited about the fundamental principles of engineering and physics. Experiment with a range of different materials to solve fun engineering problems and build cool machines.
This program is for children age 3-6.  Space is limited.  Please register at the library or by calling 508-946-2470.  This program is brought to you with federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Kids 3-6 years of age and their caregivers can register for a fun filled morning at Soule Homestead Farm in Middleborough.  Carol Carver of Self Help Inc.’s Coordinated Family Community Engagement program will have a STEAM storywalk, Laurie Amberman of Soule  Homestead will have hands-on activities for families, and Miss Amanda will lead stories and songs.   Bring a picnic lunch.  This program takes place at Soule Homestead Farm which is located at 46 Soule St in Middleborough.  Space is limited for this program.  Please stop by the library or call 508-946-2470 to register.

 Ms. Marilyn Thayer and her credentialed family therapy dogs invite children to practice and improve their reading skills. Her spaniels love having children read to them and are very loving and accepting of all individuals. Children will be able  to read in a relaxed and non-judgmental atmosphere.

The MEFA U.Fund Start U. Reading Series will feature Elmo at the Middleboro Public Library June 22nd at 10:30am. Children are invited to participate in an engaging story time and related activities with their favorite literary character. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras for photos of their children with Elmo.

The U.Fund Start U. Reading Series is one of MEFA’s statewide early college planning initiatives designed to introduce young students’ to the joy of reading and literacy through interdisciplinary activities.  All participants will have an opportunity to meet Elmo, have their photo taken, and receive a goody bag filled with materials to bring home while supplies last.

Please join us for the first of three Adult Summer Reading programs, and "Exercise Your Sprit" as you hear about the inspiring and life-changing accomplishments of Diana Nyad.  Nyad will speak with us via Skype. "Ellie and her Bookies" book club will discuss the title following the Skype call with Nyad.  All are welcome to stay.

On September 2, 2013, at the age of sixty-four, Nyad became the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without the aid of a shark cage, swimming 111 miles in fifty-three hours from Havana to Key West.

In the 1970s, she became known as the world's greatest long distance swimmer with her open-water achievements, including a record-breaking swim around Manhattan. For the next thirty years, Nyad was a prominent sports broadcaster and journalist, filing compelling stories for National Public Radio, ABC'S Wide World of Sports, and others.

She is the author of the published memoir, Find a Way, and three other books, as well as a national fitness icon and a talented linguist.

This program is free and open to all! No registration required. The formal program begins promptly at 10:15am and concludes in 20 minutes. After that families are invited to stay in the room and play until 11am.

Comedy-juggler Bryson Lang brings his high-energy, family friendly show to the Middleborough Public Library. Bryson's show combines technical juggling skills with original comedy and audience participation.  His shows have traveled all over the country including Las Vegas, he's performed on the TV show Master of Illusion, and Bryson's been hired for many corporate events including Disney and Major League Baseball.  

Open to all ages. Seating is limited.  Free tickets for this show will be available beginning Tuesday, July 12th when the library opens at 10am.

The Crescent Dancers, the Pioneer Valley's premiere Middle Eastern dance troupe for more than 40 years, will present "Bellydance for Fun and Fitness" for all ages.  They'll enchant and inspire you with a brief performance followed by a bellydance lesson including information about the dance form.  You'll build core strength through this dance form that results in low-impact on your body, and high-impact on your heart and soul  No previous dance experience necessary!

Let's close out our "Exercise Your Mind" Adult Summer Reading Program with a bang!  Join us for an evening of mystery, suspense and mindbending entertainment.

Rory Raven has had a life-long interest in all things psychic and paranormal, leading him to a career as a mentalist and mindbender. His goal is to reproduce the kind of effects parapsychologists have been researching for years – only he wants to do them live and onstage.

As Rory says, “I'm skeptical about paranormal activity. But a background in theater and an interest in esoteric subjects help me to bend the audience’s minds.”

Rory has performed everywhere from Salem and Manhattan to Istanbul, and he's performed for everyone from college students, bar patrons, and educational groups, to nightclub crowds, champion bridge players, and even a coven of witches,

Throughout his travels, Rory says that one thing has always intrigued him. “What I find interesting is that everyone has an opinion about whether or not telepathy exists. The great thing is that you don't have to believe in order to find mentalism compelling, any more than you have to believe that the actor onstage really is a melancholy Danish prince in order to get completely caught up in that experience. Remember, we're in the Theater of the Mind, and not just my mind... but yours as well.”

A delightful meeting of music and poetry ranging from Shakespeare to Robert Frost and Maya Angelou.  In the tradition of the classical art song, where composers wrote music for the poetry to be sung, the chamber jazz duo PoetryMusic combines poetry, exquisite music, and visual images for a unique multi-media experience.

Featuring Colleen O'Brien, voice and cello, and Chris Lee, vibes and percussion.

This performance is free and open to the public.  No registration is required.

Fans of the The Delvena Theatre Company's "Meet Julia Child!" show last January will be happy to hear that the acting troupe is returning this month with their performance of "Lizzie Borden and the 40 Whacks."

On a scorching hot day in Fall River, back in August of 1892, a heinous crime occurred.  Spinster Lizzie Borden was accused, tried, and acquitted for the vicious axe murders of her father and stepmother. This true unsolved mystery has fascinated people for more than 100 years. Two people died on that day in 1892, but Lizzie continues to live on in American folklore.

The live performance includes a mock trial that invites the audience to participate by questioning Lizzie, and voting on her guilt or innocence.  This “edutainment” production features Lynne Moulton and Joseph Zamparelli in multiple roles depicting Lizzie’s story and educating the audience members so that they may be informed “jurists”. Did she or didn’t she?  Let the audience be the judge. 

The cast opens up to the audience for discussion after the performance.

PLEASE NOTE: This production is not recommended for children younger than 10 years old.

The Delvena Theatre Company has been entertaining audiences for more than 20 years with plays that are thought-provoking, often humorous, and always enriching.
