Creative Crossings
| |
This month's exhibit features the artwork of Arthur Brangman's students. Works of mixed media inlcude landscapes, still-life, portraits and abstracts. The group chose the title "Creative Crossings" because they felt that a crossing must be made in order to heal both mentally and spiritually. This exhibit provides an opportunity to share their artistic achievements with the community. This is their sixth year exhibiting at Petit.

Local En Plein Air Painters
| |
In conjunction with the exhibition Turner to Cézanne, at the Everson Museum of Art, an en plein air (“in the open air”) painting event was held at the Stone Quarry Hill Art Park in Cazenovia, New York this summer. Plein Air artists gathered to create works of art inspired by the beautiful vistas and rolling hills of Central New York. Other local plein air artists were also invited to submit plein air works, many of which were created around Central NY State.
The term en plein air is a French term that literally translates “in the open air.” Up until the 1800s artists generally painted in studios, but Impressionist artists began to experiment with painting outdoors. They wanted to capture the effects of a specific moment in time such as the angle of the sun at a particular time of day, a weather pattern, season or even people as they walked down the street.

Ron Mercer
| |
Syracuse artist Ron Mercer will display his photographs of nature scenes and abstract still life. Ron Mercer's interest in photography began almost 15 years ago when he would accompany artist/photographer Harry R. Freeman-Jones on his treks to the Cold River region of the Adirondack Mountains. The body of Mercer's work ranges from landscape to abstract. His abstractions reflect his interest in the natural formation of colors, textures and shapes.
