Stephen Puleo’s sixth book focuses on the never-before-told story of how the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Gettysburg Address, and many other critical documents were secretly relocated from the Library of Congress to other places for safekeeping in 1941 and 1942, when U.S. political and military leaders feared an attack on Washington D.C. in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor.

ArtMatters presents AMERICAN ART – Part 1

Admission Free – All Are Welcome

The United States was not founded by schooled artists, but by people seeking freedom and adventure. American artists have been like America itself – pioneering, bold, and independent. Early American artists had their roots firmly planted in European traditions but explored their own frontiers and evolved their own unique flavor, forged in the struggles of the birth of a nation.
Join us for a look at the roots of American Art from 1776 until 1900 with its pioneering courage, independent drive, and rebellious spirit.
…and plan to return on
July 10 for Part 2 (1900-1950)
and on August 7 for Part 3 (1950-1990)

ArtMatters is an art awareness program designed to keep individuals connected to the world and encourage a loving relationship with the visual arts. ArtMatters brings “the museum” directly into each community.

Keeping alive the tradition of their mentor, the late, great tenor saxophonist Illinois Jacquet, they closed out the 2012 Midsummer Night Swing season with their crowd-pleasing night of hard-swinging big band classics. Dancers paid tribute to Lindy hop innovator Frankie Manning with a dance contest as the audience crowned the fourth annual Ambassador Prize winners.
