7:00 PM  -  8:45 PM The Federalist Papers - Gary Hylander

Published between 1787 and 1788, the Federalist Papers are the most important American contribution to political theory. Drafted by Madison, Hamilton, and Jay, the Federalist Papers were written to gain support for the ratification of a new Constitution and to discredit the objections of the Anti-Federalists to the Constitution who feared its centralizing powers and national authority. In the Federalist Papers, Madison, Hamilton, and Jay explained the principles of the new Constitution and carefully outlined how it would work to improve the lives of “We the People” and serve to create “a more perfect Union.”

   7:30 PM  -  8:45 PM American Art

In the second half of the 20th century, America breaks free of its European bonds to defy convention, and then dominates the entire art world. There is an explosion of creativity on this side of the ocean. American Art grows up and demonstrates its own unique personality – innovative, and sometimes controversial. But whether you swear by it, or at it, it is always fun. Join us for a look at how art in America evolved in the modern  era, from Pop Art to Grandma Moses, how it took the seat of power with all its new directions, energy, and nerve. You can’t “like” it all, but you may go home with more than you thought. Where in the world do you think it is going next?

This program is made possible by the generous support of the Frineds of the Walpole Public Library.

7:00 PM  -  8:45 PM Mark Lipman Band

Chances are, if you’ve ever heard Mark Lipman perform, your emotions have been stirred from the moment he opens his mouth to sing. This occurred at the Walpole Public Library recently when he performed
in Alan O’Hare’s play “iloveyouiloveyouiloveyoutoo”. With a voice that comes wrenching from his heart and soul, and a range that has him dubbed “the truest falsetto in town,” his powerful sonic presence has left quite a mark on his listeners. His songs come from all over the map of his human experience. He has played in well-established venues in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville, including Club Passim (where he plays a few
times a year), Toad, The Lizard Lounge, The Burren, and Atwood’s Tavern.
