The Non-Fiction Book Club is an evening book discussion group, facilitated this month by Library Director Deb Grimmett.   Books to be discussed may be reserved at the Library.  In August the group will be discussing Mrs. Sherlock Holmes:  The True Story of New York City's Greatest Female Detective and the 1917 Missing Girl Cast that Captivated a Nation  by Brad Ricca.    All are welcome to join the Non-Fiction Book Club for this conversation.

Mark your calendars because sign-ups for our registered Toddler Times and our Preschool Story Hour open up on Wednesday, September 6th at 10:00am! There will be two toddler times to choose from- Wednesdays at 10:15am or Wednesdays at 11:00am. This program is for children ages 0 to 3 and is 20 minutes of songs, rhymes, short stories and puppet visits! Our registered Toddler Times will run from Wednesday, September 13 through November 15.

Our Preschool Story Hour will be on Thursdays at 10:15am. This program is for children ages 3.5 -5 years and who are able to separate from their parents for the first part of the program, and includes 30 minutes of stories and songs followed by a craft!  Preschool Story Hour will run from Thursday, September 14 through November 16.

Once a child is registered for Toddler Time or Preschool story hour, they have secured a spot for the entire 10-week session. We require that registration for our Toddler Times and Preschool Story Hour be done in person for the first three days, and then we will begin to take registrations via phone/email on Saturday, September 9 for any spots available.

Educators from Rainforest Reptiles will invade our Copeland Room on Saturday, September 9th at 2:30pm! Kids of all ages are invited to come and hear a presenation about a variety of rainforest reptiles by a real-life herpetologist, check out the mini zoo of smaller reptiles, and then actually hold one of the larger animals! This program is for children of all ages. Registration is required and begins on August 28th. Reptiles Rock is generously funded by the Friends of the Library.

Would you like to borrow electronic books from the Abington Public Library?  Reference Librarian Marcie Walsh-O’Connor will offer Device Advice on Tuesday September 12th at 10:30 AM and Monday September 18th at 7:00 PM in the Copeland Room at the Abington Public Library.  If you have a tablet (such as an iPad or Kindle Fire) or eBook reader (such as a Kindle or Nook) we can help you borrow eBooks from our eBook collection. 

You will need to bring your tablet or eBook reader and your library card to the program.  If you use a Kindle device, you will also need your Amazon account login and password.

We are happy to welcome back historian Dr. Gary Hylander!  Tonight at 7:00 PM Dr. Hylander will share his knowledge and insights about the Cuban Missile Crisis.  This is the 55th anniversary of the Cold War confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union.  Dr. Hylander will reveal information about the personalities of the key players, including President Kennedy.  Registration is not necessary for this program; up to 60 people will be accomdotated on first-to-arrive basis.  Dr. Hylander's lecture is funded by State Aid to Public Libraries.

Bedtime Story Hour continues Monday evenings this fall at 6:30pm!  Put on your coziest PJs, grab a stuffed animal friend and join Miss Amy for 30 minutes of silly stories, songs, rhymes and the chance to “Go Bananas!” This program is suited for kids ages 4 and up. Bedtime Story Hour will run from August 28 through December 18th. Registration is not required. Our story hour programs are funded by the Friends of the Library.

We ask that you let us know if you will be attending so we have enough supplies. Adult craft night is for teens 16 and older and adults.
