Educators from Self-Help Inc. will be at the Abington Public Libray for a four-week tinkering series for kids ages 3-5. This workshop will allow childrento explore and create, helping them to hone the skills to be creative problem solvers! We will be making discoveries, solving problems and performing experiments. Registration is required and begins on May 7th. This program is for children ages 3-5 years of age.

The third meeting will feature The New England Open House Cookbook by Sarah Leah Chase. The alternative cookbook for those who may prefer it is How to Cook Everything Vegetarian by Mark Bittman. Pick up a copy of the cookbook here at the library, choose a recipe to make, and share it with the group on Tuesday, June 5 from 7:00 - 8:15. Recipes may contain ingredients to which some people have allergies or sensitivities.

Ready… Set… Lego! Our library Lego Club continues through the winter and spring, so get ready to use your imagination and build, build, build! Lego Club is for children in kindergarten and up, but we will have Duplos available for any younger friends who wish to create. Children attending the club must be accompanied by an adult. This program is from 3:30-4:30 and no registration necessary. A BIG thank you to all of the community members who donated the supplies that make this club possible.

Get ready, because on Thursday, June 21st our summer reading program officially kicks off! This year the summer reading program for children, teens and adults is Libraries Rock! Children and teens ages 0-18 can register to become a summer reader and help us earn enough reading hours to sponsor a gorilla and three honey bees. From 2:00-4:00 PM the children's room will be hosting a variety of activities! Be sure to pick up your registration packet, grab a temporary tattoo, play a few games, and drop by our "rockin'" photo booth! Libraries Rock! is sponsored by the Abington Public Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Tuesday, June 26 at 12:00 PM is the first meeting of our Lunch Bunch Book Club here at the Abington Public Library! Kids entering grades 4-6 are invited to dine while discussing this summer’s featured book. The first meeting will include games, book-related activities and the big reveal of this summer’s book choice! Registration is required and begins on June 6th. Kids will register once and are considered signed up for both meetings. We ask that participants bring a nut-free bagged lunch and beverage to the meeting. What could be better than an afternoon of books and food?! The program will be held at noon in the Anderson Story Room.

On Wednesday, June 27th at 10:30 AM, Hugh Hanley and his songs return to the library for a morning of music and movement! ! Circle of Songs is a fifty-minute program consisting of songs, finger-plays, rhymes and other fun activities. We might even get to sing a few of our toddler time favorites! This program is geared towards kids ages 0-5. Registration is required and begins on June 18th. This program is funded by the Anderson Foundation Cultural Series.

On Wednesday, June 27th at 2:00 PM educators from Mad Science will be here for their Fire and Ice show! Kids entering kindergarten and up will be amazed as they learn about chemical reactions, air pressure and the states of matter all while taking part in some cool experiments! We'll create a foggy dry ice storm, see beach balls flying in the air and concoct a special burp potion. Again, this program is for kids entering kindergarten and older. Registration is required and begins on June 18th. This program is funded by the Friends of the Library.

Educators from the Pop Up Art School return to the Abington Library on Wednesday, July 11th for another rockin' art workshop! Kids entering grades 3-6 are invited to come learn two printmaking techniques: monoprinting and collagraphy. Everyone will get to try out both techniques and the printmaking results will be made into a collage for their own vintage rock and roll poster! Registration is required and begins on June 27th. This program has been funded by the Anderson Foundation.

We're breaking out our K'Nex once more to see what we can create on Wednesday, July 25th from 2:30-3:30pm. Kids entering grades 4-6 are welcome to exercise their architecture skills and spend an hour designing and building whatever they can think of using our K'nex collection.
