We are happy to welcome television journalist and author Ted Reinstein for a return visit on Thursday October 18 at 7:00 PM.  Ted will discuss his recent book, New England’s General Stores:  Exploring an American classic.  Reinsten and collaborator Anne-Marie Dorning discuss the classic general store, the country-like place where kids come in to buy penny candy, and adults to buy everything from swaths of fabric, to fresh vegetables to four-penny nails.  The general store was real-life Norman Rockwell—deeply woven into America’s cultural identity, an integral part of the nation’s self-portrait from its earliest days. Books will be available for purchase and autographing at the end of the evening.

Ted Reinstein has been a reporter for “Chronicle,” WCVB-TV/Boston’s award winning nightly newsmagazine since 1997.  In addition he is a regular contributor for the stations political roundtable show and writes a weekly opinion column.  Ted Reinstein most recently appeared at the Abington Public Library in October 2016.  Registration is not necessary for this program; seventy-five adults and older teens will be accommodated on a first-to-arrive basis.  This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Downsizing?  Please join us on Thursday October 25th at 7:00 PM for tips and best practices for downsizing your household.  Expert Janet LaBerge will share her years of experience in helping people gain control of their household belongings.  Janet LaBerge is the owner of “Dirty Deeds”, a full service clean out company in Pembroke.  She also owns “Good Deeds”, a thrift store selling all the items that come in from Dirty Deeds.

Janet has been in business for fourteen years now and in that time, she has seen her share of overwhelmed home owners at the start of their downsizing process.  Moving from a 5 bedroom home that is full of memories, old furniture, paperwork, and all the other things that can take up 3000 square feet of space is a daunting task.  Janet will share with you the things that she has learned to make the process a little easier.  Registration is not necessary for this program; sixty adults and older teens will be accommodated on a first-to-arrive basis.  This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

2:00 PM 21 Years - A Folded Flag. Documentary Film Screening
    Contact: Deborah Grimmettq   781-982-2139   ablib@ocln.org

The Abington Public Library is honored to host a screening of the documentary film 21 Years – A Folded Flag on Saturday November 10th at 2:00 PM.  Fifty years ago the town of Abington not only lost a Vietnam War hero, but a young child lost his father.  Before going missing in action during a classified mission with his Special Operations Group, S.Sgt. Richard A. Fitts sent home his Green Beret and a voice recording with a truly special message to those he left behind.  Twenty-one years later his remains were returned to his hometown with the regalia of a hero’s welcome, and a funeral where a folded flag was presented to his only son.  Now, a half-century later this soldier’s story is told through a son’s cathartic journey to discover who his father was.  This film was produced by Rudy Childs and directed by Richard A. Fitts, Jr.  Please join us for this very special event.  Space is available for 75 people on a first-to-arrive basis.
