Want to check the weather? Find deals at the supermarket? Learn a language? Read a book? Get directions? Play a game? There’s an app for that, and for just about anything you can think of!

If you are curious about apps and what your smartphone or tablet can do, please join Reference Librarian Sarah Roberts for Appy Hour on Monday, May 6 th at 7:00pm, or Thursday, May 23rd at 10:30am. We will sip on sparkling cider as we learn about what an app actually is, how to find and download apps, and how apps can make our lives easier, more organized and more fun!

You do not need to bring anything with you to this program, but you are more than welcome to bring your smartphone and/or app-enabled device such as your ipad or Kindle Fire so we can assist you with downloading apps of interest to you. Areas of interest to be covered may include library-sponsored apps, weather, shopping, games, photography, social media, news, and health apps.  Do you have apps you love and use regularly? Join us and spread the word!

Registration is not necessary for these workshops. Adults, teens and ‘tweens are welcome. If you are unable to attend please stop by the library, call or email to make an appointment with Sarah for help with device advice, apps, accessing our digital collections or any other relevant questions. Ready… Set… Lego! Our library Lego Club returns for the winter and spring, so get ready to use your imagination and build, build, build! Lego Club is for children in kindergarten and up, but we will have Duplos available for any younger friends who wish to create. Children attending the club must be accompanied by an adult. This program is from 3:30-4:30 and no registration necessary. A BIG thank you to all of the community members who donated the supplies that make this club possible.

Join us for an evening of spirited conversation.  This month's title is The High Season by Judy Blundell. The author shares the story of "the summer bummer", which is main character Ruthie's daughter's description of the annual rental of Ruthie's Long Island family home.  In order to pay the taxes, the family must vacate their home during the best time of year.  Challenges and new beginnings happen for the family between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  Registration is not required for this program, and all are welcome to join the discussion, facilitated by Library Director Deb Grimmett.

Join us for a celebration to kick-off the annual Summer Reading Program at the Abington Public Library on Tuesday, June 18th from 2pm to 4pm!  This year, the Summer Reading theme for children, teens and adults is A Universe of Stories. Children and teens age 0-18 can register to be one of our summer readers and help us earn enough reading hours to sponsor a Black Rhino and a Giant Panda! Be sure to register, pick up the summer reading goodies, participate in a few special activities, visit our photo booth that is sure to be out of this world, and more! A Universe of Stories is sponsored by the Abington Public Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Circle of Songs is a fifty-minute program consisting of songs, finger-plays, rhymes and other fun activities. We might even get to sing a few of our toddler time favorites! This program is geared towards children ages 0-5. Registration is required and begins on June 3rd. This program is funded by the Anderson Foundation Cultural Series.

Launch yourself into summer by attending a workshop with educators from the Pop-Up Art School on Thursday, July 11th at 1:00 PM. Based on the classic silent film by George Melies, kids entering grades 3-6 will have the chance to build their own simple machine that will propel a rocket into the eye of the man in the moon! Registration is required and begins on June 18th. This program is funded by the Anderson Foundation.

We are pleased to offer a paint afternoon for our teens, going into grade 7, and adults with Pop Up Art. And we have chosen a very fun and colorful llama to paint. We will start with 15 spaces for teens and adults each. Registration is required and will start June 18th.

This program is weather permitting. No registration is required.

Join Mowgli the "man cub" and his friends Baloo the bear and Bagheera the black panther as they go on an adventure through the wild when members of the Hampstead Stage Company return to perform a rendition of The Jungle Book on Wednesday, July 17th at 2:00 PM. Head to the Abington Library for an afternoon of wild animals, danger, a battle of good v. evil and lots of adventure! This program is geared towards kids entering 1st grade and up. Registration is required and begins on June 19th. Funding for this program is provided by the fund in memory of Melba Smith.

Our library lego club continues throughout the summer, so get ready to use your imagination and build, build, build!  During the summer, lego club is for children entering 1st grade and up, but we will have Duplos available for any younger friends who wish to create. Children attending the club must be accompanied by an adult. This program is from 3:30-4:30 PM and no registration is necessary. A BIG thank you to all of the community members who donated the supplies that make this club possible.

Dennis and Kimberly Goza will perform two well-known stories from their collection of fables, folk tales and fairy tales.
