Safety glasses are provided by The STAR Library Education Network(STAR_Net), a hands-on learning network for libraries and their communities across the country. STAR_Net focuses on helping library professionals build their STEM skills by providing “science-technology activities and resources” (STAR) and training to use Join BCLS for the Total Solar Eclipse on August 21, 2017those resources. Plus, engage public audiences nationwide in informal and lifelong learning with the excitement of exploration and discovery through new NASA@ My Library resources!

What is grey water, and how can it help us with water conservation?

Come learn about water saving basics, the different types of water (white, grey, and black), grey water systems, and some possible solutions to water scarcity problems.

The talk is open to all, and no registration is required!

 

Shreya Ramachandran, an incoming high school freshman and founder of The Grey Water Project will be presenting! She has been sharing her scientific findings on grey water and encouraging water conservation in elementary schools and libraries. For her research and outreach, she recently won the EPA's  President's Environmental Youth Award and Eco Hero Award. GLASSES ARE ALL SOLD OUT!!!

 

On Monday, August 21, 2017, a total eclipse of the Sun will be visible in the continental United States.  In Fremont, we will be able to see about 75% of it.  Join us to experience this special moment!   For the safety of your eyes, please read this safety guide before attending.  

You must wear eclipse glasses to watch the eclipse directly.  We have limited eclipse glasses to give out.  Online reservation is required and starts August 7, 2017 at 1 pm at http://tinyurl.com/FRMKidsEvents 

Please bring your reservation ticket and meet up at the entrance of the library between 8:00 AM and 8:45 AM to receive the glasses.  Please be on time or your reserved glasses may be released to people on the waiting list. 

Don’t have eclipse glasses? No problem, you can still watch the live stream with us in the library!

Join us for the Great American Total Solar Eclipse! 

A total solar eclipse will darken the skies from Oregon to South Carolina.

Here in the Bay Area we will experience a Partial Eclipse.  

Approximately 76% of the Sun will be covered by the moon.  

Between 9:01 a.m. - 11:37 a.m. will be the peak viewing hours.

The library won't be open, but we will fill up the parking lot with eclipse gazers and

you will be able to view the eclipse safely with specially made lenses for solar viewing.

We will be giving away a limited number of viewing glasses at this event. One pair per family, first come, first served

 

REMEMBER: Looking directly at the sun, even when it is partially covered by the moon, can cause serious eye damage or blindness
