Two-Year-Old Storytime--Meeting Room--Pre-registration required
|
|
| |
|
Two-year-old storytime is a thirty minute program of stories, songs, fingerplays and activities selected to engage two-year-olds and enrich their pre-reading experience. Children must be two years old by the first meeting of the session. Twenty-two children are enrolled each session. Non-Acton residents are placed on the waiting list. Acton residents on the waiting list will be invited to the next session. If the Acton schools are closed or delayed due to weather, story time is canceled.

Family Movie Night--Meeting Room
|

Tonight's movie is 'Up.' Retired balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen is ready for his last chance at high-flying excitement. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, Carl sets off to the lost world of his childhood dreams. Unknown to Carl, overeager 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer Russell is on his front porch! The world's most unlikely duo meet fantastic friends like Dug, a dog with a special collar that allows him to speak, and Kevin, a 13-foot tall flightless bird. Stuck together in the wilds of the jungle, Carl realizes that sometimes life's biggest adventures aren't the ones you set out looking for.
One adult must remain at the library with each family group for the duration of the program. The library is not open for other services.

Film Masterpieces of the '40's--Meeting Room

Tonight's movie is The Third Man. An undisputed masterpiece, the film captures the mood of Vienna in post-WWII. It is also a testimony to film as a collaborative art, benefiting from Graham Greene's writing, Carol Reed's direction, and a stellar cast with Orson Welles at his scariest. The movie will be followed by a discussion. Sponsored by the Acton Memorial Library Foundation.

Tonight's movie is Late Spring. This is considered by some critics to be Japanese master Yasujiro Ozu's most perfect film. It has been praised for the delicate subtlety with which emotions are probed and conveyed, the quiet elegance of Ozu’s visual technique, and the perfection of the acting. The movie will be followed by a discussion. Sponsored by the Acton Memorial Library Foundation.

Books that smell moldy or have been stored in a damp area
Jigsaw puzzles
Books with highlighted or underlined text
Record albums and video and audio cassette tapes

If you have questions about potential donations, please speak to the library staff.
The library entrance and parking lot are reached from Woodbury Lane, which is opposite the Isaac Davis Monument on Main St., Route 27.
