NOTE TIME ADJUSTMENT TO 6:30

Beatniks, hippies and punks are normally seen as three distinct American subcultures that were developed, mostly out of youthful rebellion, by three distinct generations.

Alan Bisbort, author of Beatniks: A Guide to an American Subculture and Rhino’s Psychedelic Trip, has been turning that viewpoint on its head in his popular presentations at UConn and as editor-in- chief of PleaseKillMe.com, a website devoted to punk culture. His presentation shows how these three subcultures were kindred spirits, and that the bohemian baton was picked up in the 1950s and has been passed down to the present day.

Using original artifacts, recordings, pieces from his archive and audience interaction, Bisbort will entertain while drawing attention to the bohemian links that we all share, regardless of our age.
