Come to Ring Mountain to help restore habitat on this special volunteer day. Today we will be following up on the annual “Ring Mountain Thistle Pull”. We will protect the endangered Tiburon Mariposa Lily by finding and removing invasive tocolote and yellow star thistles. These invasive plants were once a thriving population on the rise, but this annual removal effort is yielding positive results. We have not found yellow star thistle in several years and tocolote star thistle is now on the decline. We will also have the opportunity to listen to interpretive talks, and find out what’s in store for the future of this incredible preserve! Join us to become part of this habitat restoration success story.
This is a light, moderately strenuous activity and is suitable for volunteers of all ages. Dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes, and bring water. Heavy rain may cancel. If questionable weather, call (415) 473-3778 after 7am on the morning of the event to hear a recorded message if cancelled. Questions: Contact Ring Mountain Stewardship Coordinator Sam Abercrombie at (415) 473-2128 or SAbercrombie@marincounty.org.
Meet at the gate at the end of Taylor Rd in Tiburon. DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 101 in Corte Madera, take exit 449A for Tamalpais Dr east. This club consists of individuals who love to read the New Yorker Magazine and want to talk about it with other like-minded readers of the magazine. New Yorker articles, poetry, cartoons and other relevant materials are explored in this series of exciting two-hour gatherings.
Sessions are held on the first Monday of each month (except holidays when they are on the second Monday). Group discussion is facilitated by co-leaders: Dr. Bonnie Spiesberger of Belvedere and Florence Miner of Tiburon. While group discussions may be light or serious, the goal is for everyone to have fun and enjoy the lively interaction that flows from the exchange of ideas and comments.
If interested in participating, you may sign up for the New Yorker Magazine Readers' Club by emailing Deborah Mazzolini, Library Director at dmazzolini@bel-tib-lib.org or by stopping by or calling the Reference Desk at 789-2661. Please give us your contact information, including email.

Exhibit June 3-July 5 in the Founders Room
Deborah Martin has a BA Fine Arts with Honors from the Academy of Art College, San Francisco, CA. She started as an Illustration major then transferred to Motion Pictures. After graduating, she started to dabble in photography.
She describes her art and techniques: "I create fine art digital photography using enhanced imagery to create abstract and figurative images. I find and manipulate surfaces from a variety of sources such as man-made materials or elements from nature. These layered digital photographs become stories that I weave by using abstraction or historical and tribal figures. My intentions are to work intuitively to make evocatively visceral images that will bring my audience to find their own imagination and stories."

Marin/Scapes Fine Art Exhibit and Sale runs June 27 through June 30, 2013. This is the only annual fine art exhibit and sale that exclusively features the beauty and spirit of Marin!
This year, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of our unique fundraiser that benefits Buckelew Programs and its affiliates, The Helen Vine Recovery Center and Family Service Agency of Marin. This popular event offers works by more than 40 of California’s top fine artists and photographers including Kathleen Lipinski, Steve Emery, John McCormick, Davis Perkins and more. Many artists are present at our gala and show to meet art lovers and discuss their work.
This year, we’ve added a special wine and cheese reception on Friday night for another opportunity to meet the artists and view and discuss their work. A portion of every Marin/Scapes art purchase is a tax-deductible donation to Buckelew Programs.

The SHARE a Book program allows children to read to dogs as a way to improve their literacy skills. The library programs bring a new and fun way to enjoy books. SHARE a Book volunteers also work with individual children to enable them to become more confident readers. Studies show that canine companions can help struggling children improve reading skills. Kids who can read- come read to a therapy dog!

Join us at Angel Island’s Fort McDowell (aka East Garrison), from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Learn how the Army helped soldiers and their families celebrate the holidays while stationed on the island during World War II. Visitors will have the opportunity to make 1940s style Christmas decorations to take home, and enjoy refreshments in the East Garrison Chapel and Guard House. Visit with re-enactors portraying World War II soldiers and civilians, write a holiday letter to our brave service men and women, or get your weekend pass typed up while you are here! The event is free and will happen rain or shine. For information call (415) 435-5390 or email.
