11:00 AM AUTHOR EVENT: 50 SHADES OF GRADES

Presented by Author Dr. Andy Nixon

Dr. Andy Nixon, was born and reared in Clairton. Upon graduation he took Horace Greeley’s advice literally and went west to attend college, completing a Psychology degree. He then returning to teach in PA’s first middle school. His career took him to  Idaho, Hawaii, and Utah before settling in Las Vegas. While in Idaho he submitted his first publication to a romance magazine. They bought the story and paid a nickel per word for a whopping $300. His writing career blossomed in Las Vegas, writing skits and gags for comedians, as a columnist in the daily newspaper, and eventually his first book, “50 Shades of Grades, My Journey Through Wacademia.” The cover of that book was of his third grade class.

The book sold beyond his wildest expectations, and inspired him to write the historical novel, “Three Lives of Peter Novak.” The story was inspired by events in the life of his immigrant grandfather.

Dr. Nixon resides in Las Vegas with his wife, Pat, and cat, Simone, but his roots to the area run deep. One sister had a teaching career in the Bethel Park School District at both Armstrong and Independence Middle School, another owns a restaurant in the area, and a third had a career as a Librarian in the Hershey Public School System

He will be speaking at 11:00 Saturday morning, April 22, 2017 about writing for fun and profit

When an older person begins to ask the same questions over and over, forget appointments, loose their keys or wallet, see things that aren’t there, lose their way on familiar street families hope it’s not dementia. Dementia tends to develop slowly; family members often notice the subtle cognitive decline for years. But at the time you thought it was normal aging. Come discuss and get some questions answered.
