Join us for a presentation of her history, the background story of her creation, and the ongoing story of her influence, both in comics and the world.
Presenter Wayne Wise is a comic book writer, artist, retailer, and scholar living in Pittsburgh. He has a BA in History and an MA in Clinical Psychology. He is a published author and pop culture journalist. He has taught classes on Comics and Pop Culture at Chatham University, and taught seminars on Writing for Comics at Seton Hill and Point Park University. ~Presented by the Allegheny County Department of Parks, this program combines nature, history, and exercise, all while having fun in South Park! Teams of students will race through the park alongside their Park Ranger guide trying to find as many
waypoints as possible before time runs out. Students will have to correctly answer as many questions as they can at each waypoint to earn points. The team with the most points wins a prize! For grades 5 and up. Register beginning September 1st.
*This program takes place off-site at South Park. The meeting point will be given at registration and in a follow-up confirmation email.

The book’s focus is Auggie transitioning into a public school and is given from varying viewpoints. Wonder lends itself well to open conversations about bullying, friendships, appearances, and kindness. Read the book beforehand and then come to discuss your favorite parts. Memory Café'
The fourth Wednesday of every month we will be hosting a Memory Café in the fireplace room from 10-11am.  Originally started in England, this informal setting provides the caregiver a forum for discussion, reducing the isolation often felt by people with dementia, their caregivers and families.  Discussions can range from practical tips for coping with dementia, avoiding caregiver burnout or information about community resources. Coffee and conversation specifically for people with memory loss and their caregivers.

Veteran’s Day is a wonderful holiday for citizens to recognize the brave men and women who keep us free! The Bethel Park Public Library is honored to host Dr. Robert Snyder, a Slippery Rock University professor and former Army officer and captain who served in Iraq. Dr. Snyder has written a children’s book, explaining exactly what a veteran is. He will read his book, stopping along the way to share stories and experiences from his own life. Pre-order forms for his book are available at the Library should families want their own copy. Dr. Snyder will happily sign these books and distribute the day of the program. For grades K-4 and their families. Register beginning September 1st.

 Since 2005, Hello Bully has been serving the greater Pittsburgh area and beyond. We are a Pit Bull rescue and much more! Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and repair the reputation of the American Pit Bull Terrier; and to provide assistance to all companion animals of underserved communities with a goal of reducing overpopulation and preserving the human–animal bond. Because of our amazing volunteers and incredible supporters, we have helped thousands of dogs and owners through rescue and adoptions, spay/neuters, support programs, and community outreach.
 
We will be discussing the ways that people can volunteer with Hello Bully and the various programs we have that people can get involved in.

Memory Café'
The fourth Wednesday of every month we will be hosting a Memory Café in the fireplace room from 10-11am.  Originally started in England, this informal setting provides the caregiver a forum for discussion, reducing the isolation often felt by people with dementia, their caregivers and families.  Discussions can range from practical tips for coping with dementia, avoiding caregiver burnout or information about community resources. Coffee and conversation specifically for people with memory loss and their caregivers.

Increasingly we are relying on services in "the cloud" for our entertainment, file storage, and backup. This module will introduce the cloud and some of the popular services for file storage and backup, entertainment, and Productivity. Services covered include Dropbox, Pandora, Evernote, iHeartRadio and Stitcher.

The Connections curriculum is research-based and designed for the needs of adults age 50 plus. Each course is two hours in length and introduces a topic related to computer technology.
