Donating blood may be one of the most important things you’ve ever done. Just one pint of your blood can save as many as four lives. Come and donate in Fredricksen's lower parking lot (Walnut Street). The Central PA Blood Bank will be here the first Friday of every month. It is a safe and easy process which takes approximately 45 minutes. Generally, anyone age 16 or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in good health, can donate blood. Our knitting guru, Rita Gardner, will show how to change colors in your work, sew your project together and the importance of “gauge,” She also will have a number of different swatches available to show what different patterns look like(seed stitch, fan stitch, basket weave stitch, cable). She can review basics such as casting on, binding off, increases, decreases, and joining a new yarn but this is not a "learn to" class. Please feel free to bring your projects to show off. Attendees must know how to knit and purl. Cost: $5.00 Registration begins June 15.

The 8th annual Fredricksen Library Loop 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run & Walk, presented by Holy Spirit Health System, will be held rain or shine on Saturday, July 27, 2013. Check-in and registration for both the 5K race and the Fun Run & Walk begins at 7 a.m. Start time for the 5K Race is at 8:20 a.m. and the 1 Mile Fun Run & Walk starts at 8:25 a.m. Registration and parking for this important library fundraising event will be at the Camp Hill United Methodist Church parking lot, 417 22nd Street, Camp Hill, PA.
There will be cash prizes for the top three male/female finishers overall, medals for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place male/female finishers in each age group, and a trophy for the winning team of five or more! Register ONLINE at Active.com (Search Fredricksen). Numerous sponsorship levels are available. Registration forms are available at the library, or can be downloaded from our website. Call Kathleen Fey at 761-3900 ext. 244 for more information. Pre-registration fees for the 5K race are $20 per runner until June 30th. From July 1 through race-day (July 27th), the registration fee is $25 per runner. Only pre-registered 5K runners will receive a race tee-shirt. Teams of five discount: $75. Performance tees with front logo only available for an additional $20 (pre-registered only).
The pre-registration fee for the 1 Mile Fun Run & Walk is $12 per participant until June 30th and includes a tee shirt. From July 1 through July 27, registration for the 1 Mile Fun Run & Walk is $15 per participant. Only pre-registered 5K runners will receive a race tee-shirt. As always, racers and walkers of all ages are welcome and strollers are allowed on the walk route.

Donating blood may be one of the most important things you’ve ever done. Just one pint of your blood can save as many as four lives. Come and donate in Fredricksen's lower parking lot (Walnut Street). The Central PA Blood Bank will be here the first Friday of every month. It is a safe and easy process which takes approximately 45 minutes. Generally, anyone age 16 or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in good health, can donate blood. If you have any questions about donating, call Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank at 1-800-771-0059 or visit www.cpbb.org.

Our knitting guru, Rita Gardner, will show how to change colors in your work, sew your project together and the importance of “gauge,” She also will have a number of different swatches available to show what different patterns look like(seed stitch, fan stitch, basket weave stitch, cable). She can review basics such as casting on, binding off, increases, decreases, and joining a new yarn but this is not a "learn to" class. Please feel free to bring your projects to show off. Pennwriters mission is to help writers of all levels – from novice to the award-winning and multi-published – improve and succeed in their craft. Pennwriters provides this service through critique groups, workshops, meetings, online courses, list services, and social networking groups.

Join us as we travel to the 13th annual National Book Festival, organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., rain or shine. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to meet with famous authors, mingle with other readers and writers and find out more about literary events and services.
Price includes: round trip motor coach transportation from Camp Hill, boxed continental breakfast served en route to Washington, D.C., free time to explore and participate in the National Book Festival, and gratuity for bus driver. Friday, October 25, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, the Friends of Simpson will be having their Preview Night Book Sale. Invitations to Preview Night are mailed one month prior to the sale to current Friends' members. Memberships may be purchased at the door the night of the sale. Purchase limit of 25 items per membership at Preview Night.
The Book Sale is held at Books by the Gross, 400 Cheryl Avenue, Mechanicsburg, located in the rear of the John Gross Administrative Building.

This group meets from 7:00-8:00 pm on the second Tuesday of the month, every other month from September to May. Teens help plan the special programs, Teen Summer Reading Program, and give suggestions for teen books and magazines. If you would like to be a part of this group, come to the meetings held in the Meeting Room on the Lower Level of the Library.
