2:00 PM  -  3:00 PM Animal World Experience-live animal show

Animal World Experience was founded in 2006 by Matt Gabriel.  I believe my company is unique because of the way I view my animals.  I always hold the health and happiness of my animal family above myself, and also above my business goals.  Almost all of the animals at Animal World Experience were rescued or adopted by myself over the years.  Some of them I even adopted as a teenager!  I will never breed, sell or adopt-out any of my animals and my commitment is to provide them with the loving, forever home that they deserve. Generously funded by the Friends of the Cohasset Library. Come early, space is limited. Ages 3 and up.

The South Shore Art Center presents an exhibit of monoprints by Pat Berube in the Meeting Room at the library January 4 through February 28th. Meet the artist at an ending reception on February 24th.

"My work explores the technique of mono printing while manipulation that which I see.The prints are personal to me because my perception captures the reality of my world. The prints are in both color and black and white, and vary in size. The human figure, still life and landscapes may be my starting point, but the work often evolves into simple or more solid shapes, some taking on an abstracted quality." ~ Pat

2:00 PM  -  3:00 PM Author visit - David Mehegan

David Mehegan author of Bright Deep Water: A Boston Life

A graduate of the Massachusetts Nautical School and Northeastern University Law School who served with the U.S. Navy during World War II,  Alfred Mehegan forged a career and family life,  notwithstanding the disadvantages of strife and neglect in childhood, and lifelong struggles with depression and alcohol.   The gracefully written, deeply reflective story is told against the background of Boston in the early and mid-20th century,  the American carnival, the U.S. Merchant Marine and U.S. Navy,  Boston Irish immigration and Catholic cultural life, the Great Depression, World War II, the Greatest Generation; and the age of the Postwar Baby Boom.     More than a simple chronicle, the story explores high hopes and bad luck, differences of values and dreams between parents and sons, and ponders why "one person can escape the barbed hooks of family pathology, while another cannot."

A book signing will follow the event.

6:30 PM  -  7:30 PM Sciencetellers present - Wild West: The Mystery of the Golden Piano - Age 4 and up

Grab your spurs and journey with us to the Wild West, where a legendary bank-robbing outlaw is back in town, about to strike again! After the Sheriff mysteriously vanishes, two young kids must saddle up to foil the great heist — but not before stopping a runaway train, escaping an abandoned mine shaft and discovering how a mysterious piano can play an ‘instrumental’ part in putting a rotten cowboy back behind bars.Throughout this absolutely wild adventure story, volunteers from the audience will help us explore the fascinating science behind chemical reactions, combustion, air pressure, inertia and more. Don’t miss this classic action-packed western with ‘notes’ of science! Libraries Rock! is sponsored by the Paul Pratt Memorial Library, the Friends of the Cohasset Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
