6:00 PM  -  7:00 PM ROWING ACROSS THE ATLANTIC OCEAN
    Contact: Mary Tobin   610-583-0593   reference@ridleylibrary.org

George Pagano and his teammate Caitlin Miller rowed across the Atlantic Ocean in the 2015 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. They left from La Gomera in the Canary Islands and travelled 3000 miles to Antigua in the Caribbean. They were a self-sustaining boat and received no assistance in their crossing, which took 2 months. They left the Canaries in December 2015 and arrived in Antigua in February of 2016. They set the World Records for fastest and youngest mixed pair to row across the Atlantic. In this presentation, George will show two videos, one at the beginning of the presentation and one at the end. They will give the audience a good idea of his ocean rowing journey and highlight key events (the hurricane, the sea life, rowing at night). There will be time for questions at the end.

Join us in Garling Hall for this exciting evening! This is a Civic and Social Literacy Program of the PA Forward Initiative. Library programs are generously funded by the Friends of the Ridley Township Library.

The Ridley Township Public Library is offering a free Basic Meditation Workshop led by Rich Conti from the Schoolhouse Center Meditation Group. Participants are free to stay for the entire 2 hours, or may choose to leave after 1 hour or more. In this workshop,  you will learn all you need to practice meditation on your own, at home.

Meditation requires no extensive training, preparation or effort. It is simple, easy and anyone can do it. A simple commitment of a few minutes a day can make a real difference in a person’s life by helping to clear the mind and reduce stress. The best way to learn about meditation is for someone to show you what to do and how to do it.

This is a health literacy program of the PA Forward Initiative.

JFK's assassination on November 22, 1963 has often been cited as the cause of the Beatles' sudden popularity in the United States. The logic: Kennedy's assassination made America sad, then the Beatles made it happy again. But, this logic is overly simplistic. The real answer is that Kennedy's life and eath inadvertently primed the nation for the Beatles' arrival and success. This 60 minute mulitmedia presentation will explain how and why. It will be presented by Aaaron Krerowicz, the only professional Beatles scholar in the United States. This is a Civic and Social Literacy Program of the PA Forward Initiative.

Today's Family Fun Show: Puppets Pizzazz

This puppet show is set up as a variety show with over twenty-five professional hand puppets used to perform nine funny songs and humorous skits. In between each act, there is an MC puppet who tells jokes and riddles. Each song or skit is only about two or three minutes long, so it is easy to hold the children’s attention- including toddlers! What makes Puppets Pizzazz puppet shows different is that they take popular music from today’s artists and they put a satirical spin on it.

Family Fun Shows are suitable for ages 3-10, but all are welcome to join the fun.

Today's Family Fun Show: Sciencetellers

Pirates: Lost at Sea: Ahoy! People don’t just build on land. They build on water, too! Set sail with us on a thrilling action-packed adventure about a crew of quirky pirates marooned on a desert island. With mutiny and high-tide looming, they must rescue their salty captain and find a way to build a new ship before all hope is lost … at sea!

Throughout the story, volunteers from the audience will help us explore the incredible science behind clouds, combustion, air pressure and more. Do not miss this refreshing nautical tale with a twist!  This program addresses Next Generation Science Standards PS1 (A-B), PS2 and PS3.

Family Fun Shows are suitable for ages 3-10, but all are welcome to join the fun.

Shows are free, and registration is not required.

Groups of 10+ must call in advance.
