Contact: Liz Ryan, Adult Services Librarian   432-6140   lizr@derrypl.org

Join us for an insightful evening as we take a look at the facts surrounding Betty and Barney Hill’s UFO encounter in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. On September 19th, 1961 the Hill’s lives would be forever changed and the events of that night would make history. Their experiences would come to be known as one of the highest regarded alien abduction cases in the world. Who were Betty and Barney Hill? Were they credible?  What happened on that fateful September night? Was this the first abduction case? Is there any evidence?   We welcome you to join us on the 57th anniversary of the Hill’s encounter, as we answer these questions and many more.

Encountering History will be presented by Mike Stevens, founder of Granite Sky. Granite Sky is a New Hampshire based organization that focuses on providing support to those who have had extraterrestrial encounters. Mike is a seasoned paranormal researcher and investigator. He has worked to change the stigma surrounding the abduction phenomena by promoting public awareness of the subject and by encouraging and supporting other experiencers.  He was the initiating force behind the New Hampshire historical marker for Betty and Barney Hill’s UFO encounter. Mike has been interviewed in the past by newspapers, television, and radio about his involvement in the paranormal and UFO communities locally as well as internationally.

A Living History program on a Royal like no other- Queen Victoria! In 1837, teenaged Victoria ascended to the British throne, untrained and innocent. Those who would try to usurp her power underestimated this self-willed intelligent young woman whose mettle sustained her through her 63-year reign. Using Queen Victoria's diary and letters, this program reveals the personal details of a powerful yet humane woman, who took seriously her role as monarch in a time of great expansion.
Sally Mummey will perform this living history in proper 19th century clothing resplendent with Royal Orders.

Presented in part with NH Humanities.
