In honor of Earth Day, the library is hosting a free showing of An Inconvenient Sequel, a documentary by former Vice President Al Gore followed by a panel of activists who are working locally to fight climate change. The program model involves reading the Briefing Book, watching the DVD and meeting in a Discussion Group to discuss the most critical global issues facing America today. Join Professor Paul Thifault of Springfield College in rediscovering the women writers who put American literature on the map.You’ll enjoy a lively discussion of how these pioneering authors (once labeled a “damned mob of scribbling women” by Nathaniel Hawthorne) enlarged the nation’s cultural frontiers by inventing new literary genres, writing the nation’s first bestsellers, and crafting fiction that helped ignite the Civil War.
