    SUMMER READING IS HERE!

Come by the library to help us celebrate the beginning of the summer at our Subterranean Summerfest and Chalk it Up! "5".  We’ll have various activities and contests throughout the day.  You can decorate a planter, make a yummy dirt cup, create a pet rock, try ice archaeology, and much more!  Don’t forget to bring your chalk because, once again, we’ll be Chalking it Up! This year, prizes will be awarded to the best colored chalk masterpieces!  Bring a lawn chair, picnic blanket, or whatever you need to be comfortable. Bring a picnic lunch if you like!  Grab your slab of sidewalk to decorate in the theme of “Dig Into Reading”.  First come, first serve on the slabs!  We are going to have so much fun!! Make sure to check the schedule of events that will be posted in the library to help you plan your day!

But no matter what, clear your schedule for 2:00 - 3:00 because Robert Rivest, mime extraordinaire, will be performing!  This is one show you won't want to miss!  Free tickets will be available at the Children's Circulation Desk 15 minutes before the show.

Come join other avid readers to discuss this month's book club selection, "WHEN YOU REACH ME" by Rebecca Stead!

“By sixth grade, Miranda and her best friend, Sal, know how to navigate their New York City neighborhood.  They know where it’s safe to go, and who to avoid.  Like the crazy guy on the corner.  But things start to unravel.  Sal gets punched by a kid on the street for what seems like no reason, and he shuts Miranda out of his life.  The apartment key that Miranda’s mom keeps hidden for emergencies is stolen.  And then a mysterious note arrives, scrawled on a tiny slip of paper.

I am coming to save your friend’s life, and my own.
I ask two favors.  First, you must write me a letter.

The notes keep coming, and Miranda slowly realizes that whoever is leaving them knows things no one should know.  Every message brings her closer to believing that only she can prevent a tragic death.  Until the final note makes her think she’s too late.”

For all ages: Not too long ago, Science and Storytelling were accidentally mixed.  Here is what happened...

Sciencetellers - The Bugs of Blackwood
Benjamin has a good life living on Blackwood Avenue.  Most of his neighbors are friendly.  He has a large extended family always there to help him.  And on most days you’ll find him working in the garden.  However, all this was about to change the day he was accidentally brought into the house.  You see, Benjamin is a bug and now he must be rescued!  Join us as we learn about the science of matter by telling the tale of The Bugs of Blackwood.  By using experiments with fire, gas, air pressure, water, chemicals, and much more; see if Benjamin’s friends can save him before all hope is squashed!

*FREE tickets will be available in the children's department 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the show with a room maximum of 140*
