    Yes- there is such a day! Celebrated yearly since 2000 by the American Tortoise Rescue, World Turtle Day is celebrated to bring attention to and increase knowledge and respect for, turtles and tortoises, and encourage human action to help them to thrive and survive.  Children will meet several turtles and tortoises including the Children's Room's own, Franklin.  A turtle craft will also be provided.

    Therapy Dogs International's "Tail Wagging" program encourages children to read by providing a non-judgmental listener and furry friend to read to.  Once a month your child can have the opportunity to read to a Therapy Dog at the library. Each session will start out with a group reading conducted by the program's coordinator, after which each child may sign up for a one-on-one reading session with the Therapy Dog and his handler.  Therapy dogs can be a great way to discover how much fun your local library can be!

    Our feature film this month is I Married a Monster from Outer Space, from 1958. 
Aliens from outer space are slowly invading the Earth by switching places with humans, one of them being a young man about to get married!  The film stars Tom Tryon, better known as the author of such popular horror novels as The Other and Harvest Home. The evening will feature movie trivia and refreshments.  Running time: 78 minutes.

    In this month's installment of Sci-Fi Movie Night, we pay tribute to one of the genre's most prolific and creative film makers, Ray Harryhausen (June 29, 1920 - May 7, 2013).  We will feature, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, one of his most popular and enduring films, featuring many of his most iconic character creations.  Filmed in 1958, the movie stars Kerwin Mathews and Torin Thatcher and remains to this day as one of the finest examples of stop-motion animation.   Information on Harryhausen and his career will be shared with the audience.   Running time: 88 minutes.  Popcorn will be served

    Join Roger Tinknell for this musical extravaganza featuring songs and participatory games from around the globe.  Children are welcome to join in the fun and sing  along, dance, and try their hand at playing an assortment of rhythm instruments from different countries.  Mr. Tinknell has toured extensively throughout the United States and the world, and has been the recipient of 2 Parent's Choice Awards for his Children's CDs. Families are welcome to bring blankets and a picnic supper to this high energy performance!   In case of rain, the event will be held in the Library's Meeting Room.

Journey through the deep dark jungle with Children's staff for a safari storytime featuring a collection of our wildest books!
Thunder In the Jungle by Sally Chambers and What's In the Jungle by Peter Seymour are just a couple of the "ferocious" books we'll be sharing!  After storytime, children can join in on a wild animal safari on the Library's front lawn.  
Parents are welcome to bring blankets and snacks to this outdoor storytime. In case of rain, the event will be held indoors.

The traveling estuary is a unique hands-on program that brings the estuary to the Library!  Children discover first-hand the adaptations of marine organisms by handling and observing live specimens and artifacts such as crabs, starfish, shells and more.  The traveling estuary is a great way to introduce marine biology to young scientists!   Parents are invited to spread a blanket on the Elm Street lawn for this event.   Presented by the Lloyd Center for the Environment.  In case of rain, this event will be held in the Library's Meeting Room.

    It's back!  Join the Fall River Public Library in celebrating America's favorite stuffed animal--the Teddy Bear!  The morning will include a storytime featuring the story, Where Is Alice's Bear? by Fiona Pragoff, a teddy bear craft and a teddy bear parade. You can also have your stuffed pal checked out by our Teddy Bear Doctor and enter  your bear in our  "Teddy Bear Beauty Pageant." 
Families are welcome to spread their blankets on the Elm Street lawn and bring a picnic lunch and enjoy this morning of all things Teddy Bear!  In the event of rain, this program will take place on Thursday, August 1 at 11 a.m..

    The Pumpernickel Puppets return this summer with their versions of  favorite folk tales "The Lion and the Mouse" and "The Three Billy Goats Gruff."  Join  puppeteer extraordinaire John McDonough and his amazing hand-made puppets for this delightful presentation!  John has been entertaining audiences  throughout the country for over 30 years, including at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. and the International Festival of Puppetry sponsored by the Jim Henson Foundation in New York.

Bullies and School Safety
Eddy, Claire and Melody show that reporting to an adult is the way to get help for someone being bullied and the bully too.
Come find out how to make your school a "Bully-free Zone!"  Bring a blanket and picnic lunch and enjoy this outdoor presentation.  In case of rain, this event will be held in the Library's Meeting Room.

    Cerebral Palsy
Mark uses a wheelchair because he has a developmental disability that makes it hard to control movement.  This doesn't stop him from doing all the sorts of things that other kids do.  Spread your blanket on our side lawn and enjoy the show!  In case of rain, the event will be held in the Library's Meeting Room.
Recommended for grades PreK - Gr. 2

The Kids On the Block are back this year with an all new exciting show !  Families will enjoy these near life-size puppets who act just like real kids and whose music and stories carry a speacial message.  Bring your blnakets and a picnic lunch and enjoy , "The Kids"!  In case of rain, this event will take place in the Children's Room.
