    Having difficulty finding employment? Want to re-enter the job market? Then bring your questions and concerns to the Library for the Senior Employment Workshop. Sari S. Flesch, Employment Specialist with the Nassau County Office of the Aging, will conduct a workshop to inform senior job seekers about resume preparation, interviewing skills and job search techniques. Participants must be age 55+ and registration is required.     Attend this popular workshop with Registered Nurses, Joann Tanck and Georgette Basso from the Maternal Care Unit of Winthrop University Hospital, and become a professional babysitter. Learn the basics from infant care, feeding, changing diapers to basic first aid. Certificates will be awarded to all participants. Please bring a doll or stuffed animal to the class.     PRESENTED BY LORI GREEN, RN. Knowing what to do during the first few minutes of a medical emergency can save a child’s life! Lori Green, a Registered Nurse, certified CPR instructor and former EMT, will provide instruction in the life-saving techniques of Infant and Child CPR and the Heimlich maneuver for choking. Certification will be given upon completion of this three-hour workshop. The cost of $35 (check or money order only) is payable at the time of registration . Registration is at the Reference desk and begins Wednesday, May 15 for Glen Cove residents and Wednesday, May 22 for all others, space permitting.     Since December 2006, through a website program called AnySoldier.com, we have been gathering numerous items generously donated by people in our community and collected in the Library. These items are sent to our soldiers serving in Afghanistan. This is an ongoing effort and we need your help organizing the donations into boxes and bringing them to the Post Office. Your assistance is welcome and can earn community service credit. Any donations to send to the soldiers would also be appreciated.

    Venga a pasar un rato agradable y a conocer gente local y amantes de la cultura Hispana mientras practica su avanzado conocimiento de español. Cada mes discutiremos una película en español previamente seleccionada y vista en casa por todos los participantes. Tendrá también la oportunidad de escuchar y compartir puntos de vista sobre diferentes temas de interés en español exclusivamente. El grupo se reunirá mensualmente el tercer miércoles de cada mes de 7pm a 8:30pm. Adultos y estudiantes de secundaria con avanzado conocimiento de este idioma son bienvenidos. Es necesario registrarse de antemano porque el número de participantes es limitado.

Dr. Gilbert holds an Ed.D and MS from Hofstra University in Education and has served as an adjunct professor at Hofstra teaching graduate school for over twenty years.

Older adults wish to remain as independent as possible and one key route to maintaining independence is the use of computers. Join us as a technology specialist from the Kornreich Technology Center at the Viscardi Center offers a workshop geared for older adults on ways you can make your computer friendlier.

   7:00 PM SUMMER READING CLUB 2013 KICKOFF!  
    Children are invited to sign up for the Glen Cove Public Library’s Summer Reading Club and attend fun and educational programs planned for children from preschool to grade 5. This summer’s theme, “Dig Into Reading!” reflects the ability of books to open our minds to new ideas and transport us to different experiences. Children will keep a record of what they read, and can receive prizes for continuing to read throughout the summer. “Grins and Grins” will kick off our Summer Reading Club on Monday, July 1st at 7pm. Start the Summer Reading Club by joining us for this fun-filled action packed variety show. Magic, ventriloquism, “daring” feats of balance, circus skills & more make this family-friendly show great!

    THE AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY. Travel by luxury coach bus to the American Museum of Natural History. The Hayden Planetarium is now part of the Rose Center for Earth and Space and the show, “Journey to the Stars” will be shown. Price of $36 includes admission to the Museum, a “Plus One” activity and bus transportation. Registration is in person in the Children’s Room and begins on Monday, June 17th.
