Every animal starts off as a smaller version of their parents. This presentation will reunite the baby with the mom as children use their observational skills to figure out whose mom belongs to a picture or stuffed animal of a baby animal. Then children will meet the actual animal mother. So join us and share a turtle, an opossum, a chicken, a frog, a rabbit mother, and who knows maybe a baby will visit too.

This program is suitable for children in grades Kindergarten to 3rd grade and will take place at the Main Building.

Registration begins 4/15 at 10am.  Please use your child's Library card to register. 

Please register for only one time and location: EITHER the 1:30PM program at the Main Building OR the 3:30pm program the Parkville branch.

The Caldecott Medal is awarded every year to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. Throughout the year 2024, the Mock Caldecott Book Club will meet to disucss a picture book published in 2024. At the end of the year, we will decide which book we believe deserves to win the medal.

Circulating copies will be held at the desk for checkout.

This program is best suite for children in elementary school.

Registration for this program will begin on April 16th at 10 AM.

The Forest Science Series will take place at 4pm on May 9th, May 23rd, June 6th, and June 13th. Children are not required to participate in all 4 sessions to join this program, and there is no registration. Entry to the program will be first come, first served. This program is suitable for children in grades 1-4, and an accompanying adult is required for children under 10.

Mezzo-Soprano Sarah Knott will sing opera arias and songs at Great Neck Library for students and families of all ages!

This is an educational open form/presentation in which the audience members will begin to themselves as the artist. We will learn about opera and how emotions can be heard through music even when it is in a different language than we speak. This is a sensory-friendly program so you can leave the room as needed or dance to the music with scarves!

Please note, owl pellets are masses of regurgitated undigested food- while whole animals will not be involved in this dissection, children will work with skulls and other small bones. Kick off summer with the biggesr playdate you've ever been to. We'll have stations set up across the library for our youngest of babies through burgeoning kindergarteners, with caregivers!

Join us on a treasure-hunting adventure deep within the jungle! The audience helps the performer act out the tale, as we use the events in the story to explore several exciting science concepts including air pressure, energy transfer, physical vs. chemical changes, and more! Volunteers help conduct each experiment and the whole audience gets involved in changing variables, making predictions, and comparing results! We’ll even bring some experiments out into the crowd for all to see.

Join us on Fridays in June for toddler storytime! We will read stories, sing songs, and have tons of early literacy fun! This program will take place on Friday, June 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th at 11am, and is suitable for walkers through PreK aged children. Please note that children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is not required for this event.
