Great Neck Library Celebrates Hour of Code and Computer Science Education Week!  Michael Jan, Great Neck North High School student will be teaching an Hour of Code: Intro to Java workshop. 

* Participants will need to bring their laptops with them and register in advance.  For teens in grades 7 – 12.

The SAT Prep Course is taught by NYS certified math and verbal skills experts.  Students should bring a calculator, pen or pencil, and a notebook to class.  There is a $25 fee per student for the course (fee includes the textbook). Advanced registration is required.  Juniors and seniors will be given priority.

Build trust, and positive feelings, foster creativity and improve learning capacity in these fun teen and parent together yoga classes.  Yoga decreases stress, builds positive self-image, develops confidence; yoga improves physical and mental strength in a noncompetitive, supportive environment.  The classes will be taught by Sharon Epstein, a skilled and passionate yoga instructor who has experience with all ages and levels.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat and water bottle.

The January class has been scheduled as a special class during Regents exam week.  You are welcome to attend one class or all three classes and there is separate registration for each class.  Teens and parents register individually with their own library cards.  Parental attendance is encouraged, not required.  For teens in grades 7 – 12.

   6:00 PM  -  8:30 PM ACT Crash Course for February ACT  
   

Are you a teen taking the February ACT?  If you answered yes, then the ACT Crash Course is for you! The ACT Crash Course is a one night course where a Curvebreakers Test Prep instructor gives students all of the strategy they need to take the ACT.  The instructor will go over strategies, tips, and tricks for each section of the exam.  There will also be time for student questions.

Registration is for teens in grades 9 and above and starts on Monday, January 22 at 10:00 am, online, in person, or by phone, 466-8055 ext. 218.  Advanced registration with teen’s own library card is required.

Michael Binder, one of the premier college consultants on Long Island will discuss the 5 key steps students can take to maximize their admissions and scholarship potential.   Learn how to differentiate yourself from other applicants, how to determine which colleges are truly best for you, how to use college visits to improve admissions chances, and how to get colleges to say “yes” to your application.

Teens and parents register separately with their own library cards.  Parental attendance is encouraged, not required.

Saturday, March 24, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Main Library

At the first part of the event, Curvebreakers Test Prep will administer a fully timed and proctored SAT or ACT exam, just like the real exam.  Teens will choose which test they want to take when they register.  The practice exam will help students get a feel for the timing and stamina required for the real exam.  Each student will get back the graded exam with scoring information and customized comments when they attend the Comeback Program on Tuesday, April, 10.

During the second part of the event, Nick LaPoma, Curvebreakers founder will hand back the exams, explain the scores and how to analyze them.  He will advise parents and students on how to choose between the SAT and the ACT.  Parents are encouraged to attend the comeback program.

Registration is for teens in grades 9 and above and starts on Friday, March 16 at 10:00 am, online, in person, or by phone, 466-8055 ext. 218.  Advanced registration with teen’s own library card is required.  Teens who take the practice test are automatically registered for the comeback program.  Should the practice test registration and waiting list become full, walk-in’s will be admitted on a first come first serve basis, if space permits.
