Every month the paintings, photography, sculpture and other creative crafts are displayed in the Helen Gould Room located directly off the main foyer, and in the Lower Lobby display cases. We are pleased to present the following exhibitions:

July: Sean Farkas is an East End native and lover of its landscape, finding visual inspiration and intrigue in its natural beauty. Graduating from Adelphi University with a Major in Graphic Design, Sean is constantly finding the unexpected in the everyday. Whether he is actively photographing the East End or avidly photo-journaling trips far from home, Sean challenges himself to help us see our surroundings a little differently.

August: Andy Morris was born in New York City and is a graduate of Southampton College with a major in printmaking. His colorful paintings, illustrations and lithographs have been featured in many oneman and group shows here on Long Island, including Guild Hall, East End Arts Council, Time-Life Inc., and at the Hampton Bays and Quogue Public Libraries. Andy now lives and owns a studio in Hampton Bays. This exhibit will be a thirty-five year retrospective of mixed-media.

4.- The entry with the most likes on Facebook will win a prize and be featured in our September/October Newsletter! Please submit your entries by July 27.

Visit a place made sacred through the tragic losses from the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. The museum honors and pays tribute to 3,000 victims and those who risked their lives to save others. After a staff-guided tour of the museum, you will have time to explore on your own. Walk to nearby Brookfield Place or a local restaurant for lunch on your own. Bus departs from The Church of St. Rosalie’s parking lot at 8:30 am sharp!  Depart from the 9/11 Museum at 4:00 pm sharp! In this course, you will learn how advertising works on YouTube. You will learn how to upload videos, create campaigns, set a budget, and target the right audience using Google AdWords. Emphasis is on alignment and breathing, and improved coordination and balance. The key to mat Pilates is to focus on breathing. The exercises in mat Pilates focus on strengthening the muscles of the hips, back, abdominals, and glutes.

Through Our Eyes: Photography Art Show and Reception

Thanks to a grant through the Huntington Arts Council and professional photographer Andrea Cote from The Watermill Center, teens spent their summer learning about the art of photography and created their own messages to convey through photographs. Join us for a reception on September 16 at 3:00 pm, and enjoy the art from mid- to end-September.

October: Robert Velez is a local artist who has been painting purely for pleasure for many years. His subject matter is done in an abstract style with bright colors using primarily oils. This is his first exhibit and we are pleased that he chose the Hampton Bays Library to display his colorful work.

Don’t let a medical condition stop you from using your library! Have your favorite books, magazines, movies, and more mailed directly to your home. Free home delivery via the U.S. Postal Service is available to district residents who are physically unable to travel to the library due to illness or disability, whether permanent or temporary, or for individuals who are frail and elderly and don’t have transportation.   For more information, please call Nancy at 728-6241 ext. 104.

Talking Books & Large Print at the Library

“Talking Books” -- novels, nonfiction, magazines and other recreational reading materials -- are produced by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS); the program is administered by the Andrew Heiskell Braille & Talking Books Library. Materials and the machines needed to read them are available free for library patrons. Talking books are mailed and returned postage-free, so there is never a direct cost to users. If you or someone you know would like to receive these services, please call the library at 728-6241 ext 109 for more information. For a limited time, stop by the Reference Department and try out a 3D Pen! We will have two kits of 3D pens and PLA filament to be creative with.  The 3D pens work by extruding heated plastic (PLA) that cools almost instantly into a solid, stable structure, allowing for the free-hand creation of three-dimensional objects. No appointment or registration required; first come/first served; open to all.

Falls are a major concern for older adults.  Deb Jensen, PTA, from the Physical Therapy Department at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, will go over simple steps to prevent falls from occurring.  She will demonstrate exercises, which you can do to improve your stability and balance, while reducing your risk of falling.

Join Susan Semerade for guided stretches, exercises and simple yoga poses, primarily seated in a chair. This fun-filled hour includes breathing exercises, relaxation techniques and meditation. 20 years of teaching yoga has led her to focus on those individuals who are not able to get down onto the floor; she encourages seniors and the disabled to come to her classes.

Emphasis is on alignment and breathing, and improved coordination and balance. The key to mat Pilates is to focus on breathing. The exercises in mat Pilates focus on strengthening the muscles of the hips, back, abdominals, and glutes.
