Bees pollinate the food crops that we rely on to survive. Yet bees are dying at an alarming rate, threatening food supplies and ecosystems around the world.  In this richly illustrated natural history of the bee, Noah Wilson-Rich and his team of bee experts provide a window into the vitally important role bees play in the life of our planet.

Noah Wilson-Rich, Chief Scientific Officer of the Best Bees Company, is a behavioral ecologist and published author.  He has held various adjunct faculty appointments in biology at Tufts University, Northeastern University, and Simmons College and has given two talks at TEDxBoston.

The ongoing author series is offered by the Kingston Public Library in cooperation with the Kingston Council on Aging and the Kingston Public Library Foundation. The series is sponsored by WATD 95.9 FM Radio. Programs are held at the Kingston Council on Aging, 30 Evergreen Street and will last from 7:00 - 9:00 PM.

This bold new history recovers an unknown American Revolution as seen through the eyes of Boston-born painter John Singleton Copley, whose life and career were marked by spectacular rises and devastating falls. His achievements in both Britain and America made him a towering figure of both nations’ artistic legacies.

Jane Kamensky is Professor of History at Harvard University and Pforzheimer Foundation Director of the Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, and the recipient of numerous awards.

The ongoing author series is offered by the Kingston Public Library in cooperation with the Kingston Council on Aging and the Kingston Public Library Foundation. The Kingston Public Library will join over a thousand libraries around the world in celebrating International Games Week by hosting a gaming day suitable for the whole family.

Come by the Library to try out our selection of board games for all ages and interests.  From role playing games to card games to video games, there will be something to suit everyone’s interests.  If you find a game you like, check it out and take it home to play with your family and friends.  The Library’s gaming day will take place on Saturday November 4th from 12 to 4 pm in the Library Meeting Room.

Boston's Big Dig has contributed more to our understanding and appreciation of the city's archaeological history than any other recent event. Joe Bagley, city archaeologist of Boston, uncovers a fascinating hodgepodge of history--from ancient fishing grounds to Jazz Age red-light districts--that will surprise and delight even longtime residents. Each artifact is shown in full color and accompanied by description of the item’s significance to its site location and the larger history of the city

Joe Bagley studied archaeology at Boston University and UMass Boston and joined the City Archaeology Program in 2011, where he curates a growing repository of archaeological collections.

Brack tells the wrenching and ultimately uplifting stories of families who find a new purpose after unspeakable loss. From personal experience, he speaks passionately to readers trying to make sense of calamity and to our shared capacity to transform pain into something good.

Ken Brack is a narrative nonfiction author and a longtime journalist in New England, moved by how people grow through catastrophic ordeals. His first book, Closer By The Mile, is the story of the country’s leading single-event athletic fundraiser, the Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon for cancer research. He blogs for Psychology Today’s website.  In 2008, he and his wife Denise opened the Hope Floats Healing and Wellness Center in Kingston.

The American Spirit: Who We Are and What We Stand For is a timely collection of speeches by David McCullough that reminds us of fundamental American principles. McCullough has spoken before Congress, the White House, colleges and universities, historical societies, and other esteemed institutions over the course of his career. Now, at a time of self-reflection in America following a bitter election campaign that has divided the country, McCullough reminds us of core American values to which we all subscribe.

David McCullough has twice received the Pulitzer Prize, for Truman and John Adams, and twice received the National Book Award, for The Path Between the Seas and Mornings on Horseback.  He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award.

Although the program is free, tickets are required. Registration opens on Monday September 25th at the Council on Aging, Kingston Public Library, and Westwinds Bookshop.
