This Summer version of Action Academy is for boys only! Feel free to bring a sack lunch to class if you choose.

Do you like solving mysteries?  In addition to the wildly fun games, electronics, and art, we will be reading the novel “The Lost Treasure of Tuckernuck"by Emily Fairlie.  Sixth graders Laurie and Bud attempt to solve an eighty-year old mystery at their historic school before the building is torn down to make way for a MegaMart.

Just as in the story, each of you will receive a clue.  If you figure out the answer, you will go on to find the next clue.  There will be 7 clues—if you find the treasure, you too will be very happy!

The following clubs meet in the time machine (Kids' Room) at the library each week.  Signup is required for the six week session.  Each week will feature something new—races, games, outdoor sports, ipads and books, scavenger hunts and even watermelon bowling.  No two weeks are the same!  You are automatically entered in Summer Reading.  Come each week and get a stamp in your passport —each stamp means a chance to win more great prizes!   $6.00 is the fee for the six week session to cover the cost of materials, $12.00 for those outside the library district.  Sign up begins Tuesday, May 28 at 10 a.m.

Teens ages 12-17 join us for this month’s Literary Lounge, where we will be reading Struck by Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal by Chris Colfer.

Struck By Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal follows the story of outcast high school senior Carson Phillips, who blackmails the most popular students in his school into contributing to his literary journal to bolster his college application; his goal in life is to get into Northwestern and eventually become the editor of The New Yorker. At once laugh-out-loud funny, deliciously dark, and remarkably smart, this book unearths the dirt that lies just below the surface of high school.

Copies of the book are available behind the circulation desk after the first of the month. Copies can also be put on hold by any reference librarian prior to Lit Lounge.

Sign up required.

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion:

'R' is a zombie. He has no name, no memories and no pulse, but he has dreams. He is a little different from his fellow Dead.

Amongst the ruins of an abandoned city, R meets a girl. Her name is Julie and she is the opposite of everything he knows - warm and bright and very much alive, she is a blast of colour in a dreary grey landscape. For reasons he can't understand, R chooses to save Julie instead of eating her, and a tense yet strangely tender relationship begins.

This has never happened before. It breaks the rules and defies logic, but R is no longer content with life in the grave. He wants to breathe again, he wants to live, and Julie wants to help him. But their grim, rotting world won't be changed without a fight.

Copies of the book are available at the beginning of the month for checkout behind the circulation desk. Or a copy of the book can be put on hold for you by any reference librarian prior to the book discussion and movie viewing.

What if the world's worst serial killer...was your dad?
Jasper "Jazz" Dent is a likable teenager. A charmer, one might say.
But he's also the son of the world's most infamous serial killer, and for Dear Old Dad, Take Your Son to Work Day was year-round. Jazz has witnessed crime scenes the way cops wish they could—from the criminal's point of view.
And now bodies are piling up in Lobo's Nod.
In an effort to clear his name, Jazz joins the police in a hunt for a new serial killer. But Jazz has a secret—could he be more like his father than anyone knows?

Ever wonder what you could do with a book besides read it? Well, look no further. Book hedgies (aka hedgehogs) are here! The library will supply the books (don't worry, we are putting old books to a very good use -- your crafting abilities). Enjoy an easy craft, chat with friends, and listen to music while you make your own book hedgie to take home. Once you have created the basic hedgehog, feel free to make it your own. You can make it into your favorite book character, or leave it as a classic hedgehog...the possibilities are endless! This craft can take as long as it takes you to fold each page and decorate your hedgie. So take your time, or make two. We just wanted to allow extra time for you to complete your masterpiece!

Join us for this month’s Literary Lounge, where we will be reading Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.

In order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race's next attack, government agencies breed child geniuses and train them as soldiers. A brilliant young boy, Andrew "Ender" Wiggin lives with his kind but distant parents, his sadistic brother Peter, and the person he loves more than anyone else, his sister Valentine. Peter and Valentine were candidates for the soldier-training program but didn't make the cut—young Ender is the Wiggin drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training.

Is Ender the general Earth needs?

Ages 12-17. Sign up required.

Copies of the book are available behind the circulation desk at the beginning of the month. Copies can also be put on hold by any reference librarian prior to Lit Lounge.
