2017-2018 Sibling Rivalries

The Brothers Bulger / Howie Carr

A seasoned reporter from the Boston Herald, Howie Carr presents the two Bulger brothers who for decades controlled Boston politics and organized crime. William "Billy" Bulger, president of the Massachusetts Senate and the University of Massachusetts, wielded his political power through deal making and patronage. James J. "Whitey" Bulger, mob leader of the Irish-American Winter Hill Gang, wielded his power through racketeering, physical violence, murder, and extortion. Although William no longer holds his positions, forced to step down for failing to disclose to the FBI his brother's whereabouts, as of 2005 fugitive "Whitey" Bulger remained at large and on the FBI's "10 Most Wanted List."  Books & Authors

2017-2018 Sibling Rivalries

Homer and Langley / E.L Doctorow

In Homer and Langley, novelist E.L. Doctorow examines the lives of two reclusive brothers whose cloistered life is affected by some of the most profound events of the 20th century. When Langley returns home from World War I, he is forever scarred by his experiences, and he is nearly tipping over into the abyss of madness. His brother Homer, who is blind and possesses uniquely prophetic abilities, welcomes Langley into the once-grand New York City mansion in which he lives. Together, the two brothers isolate themselves from the world, but all the while, history is playing out around them and shaping them in the most surprising ways. Books & Authors
