 International artist Fabrizio Ferraro performs inspiring guitar interpretations of Italian opera and other classical favorites. You’ll hear masterworks from Italy’s iconic composers such as Verdi, Bellini, Puccini & Vivaldi. You’ll also hear some of Fabrizio’s original compositions, including a preview of his guitar concerto which will receive its US debut on 10-8-17 by the Queensboro Symphony Orchestra. As the winner of many national and international competitions, Fabrizio has performed in various European and American cities and in China, receiving critical acclaim. This concert will be hosted by composer/pianist Paul Joseph, who will also be a guest artist on this program joining Fabrizio in some guitar/piano duets.

Jerome Kern concluded that Irving Berlin has no place in American music. He is American music. During Irving Berlin’s career he published an estimated 1,500 songs. Marty will discuss how the immigrant from Russia became the classic ragtime to riches story. Sit down and listen to the story of one of the greatest songwriters of popular songs, including Alexander’s Ragtime Band, God Bless America, White Christmas, A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody, Puttin on The Ritz, and There is No Business Like Show Business.

This was the time that jazz was king - this was the time of the silent movies - for the first time women were able to vote in a presidential election - and with the 18th amendment prohibition went into effect - Ford’s model T hit the new roads - the scandal of Teapot Dome shook the presidency - Billy Sunday, the evangelist, preached to thousands - the Scopes Monkey Trial: the Bible vs. Evolution - Babe Ruth hit the ball out of the ballpark and Jack Dempsey knocked out his opponents - and Rudolph Valentino made women swoon and Charlie Chaplin made everybody laugh. Then it all ended with the Wall Street crash in 1929 and the next decade ushered in the economic depression of the thirties. Don Parker, a retired teacher of American History will present this program.

With a career that spans 35 years now, Grammy Nominated, Argentina born and New York based pianist and composer Emilio Solla got his degree in classical piano at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires and his MA in Jazz Composition at Queens College in New York. Solla is considered one of the most outstanding musicians worldwide in the Tango-Jazz genre, a blend of Argentine tango and other Latin American rhythms with the freedom and improvisation of jazz music. He will be appearing with tenor saxophonist, Tim Armacost.

These programs are made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Govenor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and is administered by The Huntington Arts Council, Inc.
