In Ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by the Demigod Maui reaches Moana's island, she answers the Ocean's call to seek out the Demigod to set things right.

Movie is rated PG and runs for 1hr 47 min.

Registration preferred so that we can plan for the appropriate amount of refreshments (We don't want to run out!) but walkins are welcome.

Monet’s Magic: Pastel Paint Monet’s Wondrous Water Lilies with Greg Maichack

The workshop is a two-hour event (plus one hour set-up and take-down) that enables sheer beginners to advanced adults, and teens 18+, to experience creating a pastel painting while offering interesting and entertaining historical information about Monet’s life and painting techniques, a demo at easel, and participants’ own hands-on experience with pastels (all professional-grade materials supplied). All take home their own pastel paintings.

Bring your favorite stuffed animal to the library for a special storytime, snacks, craft, and then leave your animal friend for a night of library fun! Stuffed animals can be picked up beginning Saturday, Feb. 24th. This is the grand finale of our PJ Drive. PJ donations can be made throughout the month of February, at the sleepover party, or through the first week of March. A PJ donation is NOT required to attend this program.

Make a small Bargello Quilt
Thursday, March 15 from  6:30 - 9:00pm

Make your very own Bargello Quilt from a pre-assembled kit, then turn it into a table runner, pillow or anything else you can imagine.

The number of participants are limited to the number of sewing machine we have in the makerspace.   If you would like to bring your own sewing machine,  email Diane at dbusa@minlib.net so that we can open the workshop up to more people.

This project will cover some basic concepts of quilting and how to operate a sewing machine.   
Class is open to individuals 17 yrs or older due to the fact that we will be using rotary cutters.
Held in the Medway Library Makerspace

Registration is required

Participants will be considered certified on the sewing machines after the completion of the workshop.

Growing Shiitake & Oyster Mushrooms at Home
Thursday, March 29th at 7 pm
The presenter will be bring an assortment of tools, materials, and live fungi for you to see and handle. He will have some shiitake logs to give away in a free drawing. As well, he may have ether table-top grow kits or spawn for sale after the presentation.
 

 
What will you learn in this workshop?
  • The primary species we'll discuss are Shiitake & Oyster, however, if the class wants to discuss other species, we can.
  • The life cycle and needs of fungi
  • The types of wood to use, how to age it, and when it's aged too much
  • How to get spawn (fungi to inoculate your log with)
  • Low cost tools and materials you'll need for 5-100 logs
  • Advanced tools for producing 100's-1000's of logs
  • Safety procedures you need to follow
  • How to take care of your logs for the 1st year in Southern New England
  • How to take care of the logs for the following years 
  • How to set up a simple "assembly line" and work with friends and family to inoculate dozens of logs for less than $200.
Mark Gostkiewicz is the owner of Tri Gable Lea Farm LLC in Colchester, CT. He has been a middle school math teacher for 15 years, and he runs a farm/agriculture club at his school. Through teaching students every week about organic gardening practices, he's created a diverse hands-on curriculum, and now he is starting to transform his home farm into an education center for local families.
