Our May display in the Wotiz Gallery is by talented painter Michael Petringa. A resident of Braintree, MA, Michael graduated from New England School of Art and Design, Boston, and majored in advertising with a minor in painting. He worked in the art department of a major company for about 3 years, but then decided to move to Florence, Italy. He lived in Europe for about 15 years, studying painting, and taught drawing and painting. He became very interested in faux painting, which was having a kind of renaissance at the time. In Europe, he was the primary graphic designer for an advertising agency in Florence, and also taught drawing and painting in the local schools in Munich. Michael discovered abstraction and expressionism while in Europe, also mastering various mediums.
When Mr. Petringa returned to the U.S. permanently, he established a flourishing decorative arts business. After 14 years, he now finds himself in the position where he can balance both his decorative and fine arts businesses. His works can be found in private and corporate collections both here and abroad. He will hold a free and open reception on Thursday, May 9th from 6-8 PM to celebrate his exhibit. His website is www.petringa.com.
Please join him to view this lovely work.

Painter Linda Hurd will show her artwork in the Wotiz Gallery during the month of June. Ms. Hurd says this about her work: "Painting and writing have helped me as I am learning to live with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in my family. Painting helps me to sit still and often gives me new insights as I contemplate the subject in front of me. I often present a theme in a series of 12 watercolor paintings with captions. ....Currently I have series on ADHD challenges, telephone poles, laundry, steps, trash and chairs. I am working on a series...on boundaries." The telephone pole series that Linda has created is a metaphor for people who are wired differently and yet are connected and need each other. Selections of her work can be seen at http://www.lindathurd.com. Please come and view this interesting exhibit during the month of June.

Our pick for June's book is A Love Story Starring My Dead Best Friend by Emily Horner. When Cass's best friend Julia dies in a car accident, she leaves behind plans for a musical called "Totally Sweet Ninja Death Squad." Julia's friends in the drama club are determined to put on the show, but Cass, who's much happier behind the scenes, is conflicted. She feels even worse when Heather, who bullied Cass during middle school, is chosen as the lead. Cass decides to mourn Julia in her own way, by biking across the country with Julia's ashes. The story alternates between Cass's ride and the production of "Totally Sweet Ninja Death Sqaud" as Cass learns about grief, love, and most importantly, herself.
Put the book on hold by clicking the title above, then join us for a discussion and snacks at 7 p.m. on June 10.

Readers' Theatre is a a type of drama performed by "readers" who read from a script and do not have to memorize lines. Performed with minimal costumes, sets and props, readers' theatre can be not only a great introduction to theatre for kids, but it's also a great way to practice one's oral reading skills, build confidence, and have fun with friends at the same time!
This summer, Miss Sara is leading a Readers' Theatre Club for students entering grades 2-4. Each week participants will play theatre games, tackle different scripts based on well-known children's books, and make crafts to supplement the stories we're telling together. The Club will meet six times over the course of the summer, and each meeting will culminate with a performance for family and friends. While this is a drop-off program, parents/caregivers are asked to return 15 minutes before the end of each class (at 3:15) so they can see the show!
Students must be fluent readers who have completed first grade. Registration is required and will open June 1.
