Mystery Subgenre: Private Investigators

Benchmark Title: The Godwulf Manuscript by Robert B. Parker

Southeastern Massachusetts is starting up its very own Reader’s Advisory Round Table genre study group!

Meeting every other month, we will tackle the mystery genre for the first year and discuss the appeal of various mystery subgenres with each other — emphasizing appeal factors and whole collection reader’s advisory. Participants will be asked to read a benchmark title (all reading the same one) and a second title in the genre of their own choosing to describe to the group.

The plan is for each of us to be introduced to the discipline of reading for appeal, and to practice it. Everyone participating will be able to share analysis of titles and authors in unfamiliar genres that will stretch their capacity as reader’s advisors.

The discussion leaders to start off will be Laurie Cavanaugh, Holmes Public Library (lcavanaugh@sailsinc.org) and Kristi Chadwick of the Massachusetts Library System (kristi@masslibsystem.org). For more info, contact Laurie and/or visit the SE-RART blog at http://rartsoutheastma.wordpress.com. Click on Eventkeeper link below to register!
