9:30 AM  -  10:30 AM ABCs of HTML [webinar]
    Contact: Amanda Fauver   1-866-627-7228   amanda@masslibsystem.org

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is the coding used to author web pages.  Though the web has evolved over the years, HTML remains the foundation.  Even a minimal familiarity with HTML can help you edit a blog or page faster than using Dreamweaver or other similar software.

This workshop will be led by Rita Gavelis, LibAssist - http://www.libassist.com/.

Participants will receive GoToWebinar information in advance of the session.

    Contact: Amanda Fauver   1-866-627-7228   amanda@masslibsystem.org

Many libraries use websites or blogs to present information to the public. Many of these services have built in editing tools that look very similar to word processing software.  You might use them all the time, yet have little or no knowledge of the HTML or CSS coding that goes on behind the scenes.

In this webinar, I will:

  • Explain what Cascading Styles Sheets are
  • Discuss why they are important.
  • Demonstrate where they are used
  • This workshop will be led by Rita Gavelis, LibAssist - http://www.libassist.com/.

Participants will receive GoToWebinar information in advance of the session.

10:00 AM  -  11:30 AM Everyone’s a Readers’ Advisor: Training & Merchandising Strategies For Library Staff [Webinar]
    Contact: Amanda Fauver   1-866-627-7228   amanda@masslibsystem.org

In this program, we'll talk about the skills associated with providing readers' advisory beyond the RA interview, focusing on the importance of good displays and merchandising. We'll use many photos of effective displays, both in the library world and outside of it, to demonstrate why certain simple tricks can both increase your circulation and increase your connections with patrons. And finally, we'll talk about how you can share these new (or refreshed!) skills with everybody in your library in order to catalyze more excitement around your library's readers' advisory services.
Objectives:
After participating in this webinar, you will be able to:
• Identify a few simple tricks that will enhance the effectiveness of any book display
• Implement a set of guidelines that will keep displays and shelves looking approachable and browsable
• Begin training your colleagues or staff on how to use these principles
