Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Our organization has more than 345,000 memberships. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 15,900 clubs in 142 countries that make up our global network of meeting locations.

The world needs leaders. Leaders head families, coach teams, run businesses and mentor others. These leaders must not only accomplish, they must communicate. By regularly giving speeches, gaining feedback, leading teams and guiding others to achieve their goals in a supportive atmosphere, leaders emerge from the Toastmasters program. Every Toastmasters journey begins with a single speech. During their journey, they learn to tell their stories. They listen and answer. They plan and lead. They give feedback—and accept it. Through our community of learners, they find their path to leadership.

The Invisible Bridge

March 14 - The Invisible Bridge, by Julie Orringer

Paris, 1937. Andras Lévi, a Hungarian-Jewish architecture student, arrives from Budapest with a scholarship, a single suitcase, and a mysterious letter he promised to deliver. But when he falls into a complicated relationship with the letter’s recipient, he becomes privy to a secret that will alter the course of his—and his family’s—history. From the small Hungarian town of Konyár to the grand opera houses of Budapest and Paris, from the despair of Carpathian winter to an unimaginable life in labor camps, The Invisible Bridge tells the story of a family shattered and remade in history’s darkest hour. - (Random House, Inc.)

News of the World

April 11 News of the world : a novel, by Paulette Jiles

Kidd, a retired Civil War captain, didn’t have babysitting on his mind when he drifted into town, but he ends up escorting a 10-year-old to her family for a $50 gold piece. Johanna was captured by the Kiowa after her German immigrant parents were attacked and killed, and now the unlikely duo must travel through rough Texas country together. Capt. Kidd raised money by reading newspapers to townspeople (hence the title) and tries to “civilize” Johanna, all while the two of them fight off raiders and thieves of all types...

Why Rain Barrels? Save the planet and your money

Rain Barrel painted yellow with purple flowers

RaindropPresented by the Abington Environmental Advisory Council

Learn how you can make a difference.
Attend our workshop:
Wednesday, June 6, from 7-8 pm
at Abington Free Library

You will learn...

Why you need a Rain Barrel

  • You can help the environment by collecting the rain-water from your roof and gutters with a rain barrel.
  • Rain barrels help lessen flooding, pollution and erosion.
  • With less rain-water running-off the land, less pollution will flow into our creeks and rivers.
  • Collecting and using your rain-water can also save you money on your water and sewer bills.

To register for this free program, email kmcinnis@mclinc.org, in the Library Office (215-885-5180, ext. 15) or online here soon.
