Explore classic and contemporary art-making techniques while exploring diverse media in this Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and Mt. Lebanon Library collaboration. Your child can choose just one or attend up to four sessions that will take turns concentrating on the human figure, landscapes, visual storytelling and experimentation.  This series is part of our Matt's Maker Space Year of Making and was generously funded by Matt's Maker Space.

For kids in 4th - 5th grade.  Registration is required.  You must register for each session separately.  Registration begins March 10th at 9am

April 7th: Figurative.
Students will use gesture and contour drawing methods to learn about facial and body proportions. Creating quick, timed charcoal drawings and in-depth mixed media artworks, your child will express human anatomy artfully.

 April 14th: Landscapes
Students will utilize the outdoor spaces at the library, creating drawings and paintings 'en plein air' like the French Impressionists. Tackling color mixing, perspective, and fine line drawing techniques, your child will create colorful personalized landscapes.

 April 21st: Narrative
Students will express a complete story using only a series of hand drawn images. Employing literary elements like character development and plot, students will look to ancient murals, classic comics, graphic novels and famous illustrated books as inspiration for his or her own visual narrative.

 April 28th: Experimental
Experimenting with and combining a variety of drawing and painting media, students will discover new and unexpected results. Each child will collaborate with classmates in an art game, use music to shape his or her style, and make marks using non-traditional materials.
