10:05 AM  -  12:00 PM Writing Mothers (6 week session)

Do you long to memorialize the stories of your children or the stories of your own childhood to share with your family?  Because mothers are multi-dimensional, would you also like to explore other aspects of your life through the craft of writing?

In this workshop, you will find a safe and supportive community in which to write. Whether you are a brand new or more experienced writer, the AWA (Amherst Writers and Artist) method gives you an opportunity to write several times during every session. Because this is “new work”, just created and not edited or refined, it will come most directly from the heart. Everything we share is treated as fiction, and we respond to all writing with encouragement, confidentiality and respect.

We will write from evocative prompts, including poetry, prose, music and everyday objects. The emphasis always stays on the art of writing, rather than on any writer’s individual concerns.

Come with a notebook and pen, or a laptop, and get ready to write!

Please register once, for March 3rd, to be registered for the entire series. Class size is limited - save your spot early!

A program to entertain and amaze offered by the Newbury Town Library on Friday, March 9th at 6:30pm. Rory Raven isn’t psychic, but he will read your mind, bend your spoon, and leave you talking about it for the rest of your life. This is a fun, audience-participation show geared toward older teens and adults. Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Newbury Town Library, this program is free to all! Please register below for this program.

A life-long interest in all things psychic and paranormal led Rory to pursue a career as a mentalist and mindbender. His goal is to reproduce the kind of effects parapsychologists have been researching for years – only he wants to do them live and onstage. As Rory says, “I’m skeptical about paranormal activity. But a background in theater and an interest in esoteric subjects help me to bend the audience’s minds.” Visit www.roryraven.com today!

Join us for a special concert on St. Patrick's Day with Musician, Jeff Snow! Please register online below for this special concert.

Jeff Snow is a talented multi-instrumentalist who plays the music and tells the stories behind the songs. He plays six and twelve string guitar, autoharp, Celtic Bouzouki & Bodhran. Jeff also plays the drums and a variety of other percussion instruments. A skilled guitar player, Jeff was featured in the August 2006 issue of Acoustic Guitar Magazine.

The Softer Side of Celtic

Growing up as the son of a drummer in a Bagpipe band and in a home where older Celtic songs were the everyday sounds, Jeff developed a love for the music of Scotland, England and Ireland. His concerts have been described as "quiet and relaxing " and much of it is, but sometimes he'll break out and the foot stomping begins.

The magical sounds from the instruments coupled with vocals and Jeff's love and knowledge of his Scottish heritage create a delightful program of traditional and original tunes and songs.

Much of the history of Scotland, England and Ireland is preserved in song. Hearing those stories along with the songs  educate as well as entertain. You will see singing, laughing, lots of smiles and perhaps a few tears.

   5:30 PM  -  6:30 PM Genealogy Club

If you’ve done some family research but didn’t get very far, or if you’re just wondering how to begin looking for your ancestors, come to Genealogy Club! You will receive ideas, resources and motivation to help you uncover the life stories of your ancestors.

We look forward to having special events with professional genealogists to speak about particular issues, or just to give tips and suggestions for planning and organizing your family research.  We’ll discuss what to do when you hit a wall, how to locate military records, and talk about DNA analysis. Ancestry.com is available for your use at all library computers.

The Genealogy Club meets on the first Thursday of the month and is open to anyone with an interest in discovering who you are and where you came from.
