    Get ready to have a dirty time.  Participants will help mix up a big batch of goop.  We will then shape the goop into rocks, slip a treasure (children can choose which one!) into its center and allow it to dry.  Children will take the rocks home and then they can be cracked open to reveal their prize.  Wearing an old shirt is recommended.  This rock program is recommended for students in grades K-6.  Registration is required and begins on June 17th, 2013;  and a valid New City or West Nyack library card is necessary.

    More fun with dirt abounds!  Children will make their very own Grass Head guys using dirt, panty hose and some grass seed.  the best part of this program is that the fun will continue for weeks to come because Grass Head guys quickly sprout their own crop of "hair".  Children can trim and style the hair as they desire.  Wearing an old shirt is advised.  This program is suggested for students in grades 2-6.  Registration is required and begins on July 5, 2013; and a valid New City or West Nyack library card is necessary.

Students learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable and to set realistic goals for increasing activity. They also find ways to change the environment to reduce fall risk factors and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance. The class meets 8 times for 2 hours each. The program serves adults who are 55 and older and who are able to walk about and problem-solve . This program is sponsored by the Rockland County Department of Health. The class meets Mondays from 2 pm to 4 pm. The schedule is as follows: Sept 23, 30, October 7, 21, 28, Nov 4, 18, 25. No classes on Oct. 14 and Nov. 11.     A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is a program designed to reduce fear of falling and raise activity levels among older adults. Students learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable and to set realistic goals for increasing activity. They also find ways to change the environment to reduce fall risk factors and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance. The class meets 8 times for 2 hours each. The program serves adults who are 55 and older and who are able to walk about and problem-solve . This program is sponsored by the Rockland County Department of Health. The class meets Mondays from 2 pm to 4 pm. The schedule is as follows: Sept 23, 30, October 7, 21, 28, Nov 4, 18, 25. No classes on Oct. 14 and Nov. 11.    2:00 PM  -  3:00 PM Maple Sugaring Time!  
    Children in grades K-6 are invited to learn about the art of tapping sugar maple trees.
What do you do with all of the sap that you collect?--Turn it into yummy maple syrup!  The experts from "The Nature Place" will be on hand to talk about the process, then, we'll head outside and tap a sugar maple tree before heading back in from the cold to enjoy a syrupy treat!

Open to holders of New City or West Nyack Library cards.
Limited space available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Must bring your library card for admittance to the program.
