Analyzing Teaching for Student Results (ATSR)
Presenter: Kathleen Spencer
Research for Better Teaching (RBT)
Presenter: Kathleen Spencer., RBT: Research for Better Teaching
Dates: Seven dates throughout the school year (Wednesdays)
2017: Oct.11, Nov.01, Nov.29, Dec.13, 2017.
2018: Jan.03, Jan.24, and Feb.14, 2018.
Time: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Session Number: 18-102201
Description: Reflecting the national shift towards learning-focused supervision and evaluation, the Analyzing Teaching for Student Results (ATSR) course helps leaders zero in on high-leverage teaching strategies that make a difference to student learning. During the 42-hour ATSR course, participants examine and use both a common language and concept system about teaching to support any state framework. In addition, they develop skills for identifying and providing results-oriented reports and feedback based on observations and analysis of data from other sources including student achievement.
This program is comprehensively redesigned to meet the requirements of the new teacher evaluation systems used in Massachusetts and other states. To apply the language and concepts to various states’ models, crosswalks have been developed for districts where RBT has already been working.
Outcomes: Practice exercises, video clips, case studies, collegial problem-solving, and fieldwork all
emphasize a range of instructional leadership skills to:
- Name, explain, and document what expert instructors know and do in many performance
areas from classroom management to planning standards-based lessons and assessments,
- Communicate effectively about practices and decisions that impact student learning,
- Provide standards-based feedback and collegial conferences about teaching practice to
stimulate reflection and growth, and thereby support and sustain high-quality teaching,
- Use multiple data sources to assess growth opportunities and help meet new requirements
for teacher goal-setting and improvement planning.
ASTR also includes a site visit to participants working within a 90-mile radius of NRC.
Participants completing all course requirements will receive 67.5 PDPs, and optional graduate credit.
Audience: K-12 Administrators, department chairpersons
Hours/PDPs: 42 hours; 67.5 PDPs
