Art historian Ines Powell presents an insider’s perspective on the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s special exhibit of paintings by the great El Greco.  Greek-born, Italian-trained, El Greco settled in Spain where his dramatic and emotional style puzzled many of his contemporaries.  It was not until the 20th century that his unique approach was appreciated and recognized as a forerunner of both Expressionism and Cubism.  This extraordinary exhibit at the Met includes El Greco paintings from The Hispanic Society of America.

Paris, that beguiling city overlooking the Seine, has inspired painters, poets, and artists of every description for centuries.  Pianists Matthew Harrison and Vlada Yaneva pay tribute to this fabled city by performing the music of composers that fell under its spell.  Hear Claude Debussy’s enchanting Clair de Lune and Petit Suite, Frederic Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 9 no. 1, as well as works by Rameau, Mozart, and Liszt.  Matthew holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, and is currently a faculty member of the school’s Precollege Division.  Vlada graduated with high honors from the National Academy of Music in her native Bulgaria, and has a Bachelor of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music.  Their performances have taken them from stages in Europe to Carnegie Hall.  C’est magnifique!
