This month the Adult Book Club will read and discuss Where the Forest Meets the Stars by Glendy Vanderah.

Book Summary: After the loss of her mother and her own battle with breast cancer, Joanna Teale returns to her graduate research on nesting birds in rural Illinois, determined to prove that her recent hardships have not broken her.  She throws herself into her work from dusk to dawn, until her solitary routine is disrupted by the appearance of a mysterious child who shows up at her cabin barefoot and covered in bruises.

“What’s In, What’s Out?” Recycling Program

Tuesday 4/30 from 6pm-7pm

Find out which items should be placed into your recycling bin (What’s IN) and which items belong elsewhere (What’s OUT)! Sherill Baldwin from the CT Department of Energy and Environmental    Protection (DEEP) will provide an overview of acceptable materials in CT’s mixed recycling program. They will answer questions about recycling and trash.

Medicare 101

Confused about Medicare? You are not alone!

If you are confused by all the letters, calls, and commercials you are seeing, then this is where you need to be.  Join Deirdre Virgalla from Teelin Insurance in this Medicare 101 Presentation, she will help resolve the confusion you may have about Medicare.

Some Topics that will be covered:

•What is Medicare?

•What do I need to know before signing up for Medicare?

• How and when do I sign up for Medicare?

•What are my Medicare choices?

• What does Medicare cover and not cover?

• What is the difference between a Medicare Supplement and a Medicare Advantage Plan?

We will differentiate Medicare Part A, B,C and Part D drug coverage. Summarize Part D eligibility. 
We will answer any questions people may have.

Paint By Number

Monday 5/6 at 1:30pm

Paint by numbers is perfect for people who may not have a ton of art experience but love creating or those who are artistic experts wanting to try something new. You can make your painting experience as social or independent as you’d like! Register soon to save yourself a canvas!

LEGO Challenge (Ages 5-18)
Thurs. 5/2 from 6pm-6:45pm

RESCHEDULED - NEW DATE: TUES. 5/7 AT 6PM

Participants will have 40 minutes to build an insect (real or imagined) out of Legos. At the end of the program each participant will receive a photo of their Lego Build to take home!

Registration is required and space is limited to 10 friends.

This is a “Drop-Off” program: children 8 and older may attend without an adult. However, their parent/caregiver must drop them off and pick them up from inside the library at the designated program times.

A Successful Garden Starts with Soil

Thursday 5/9 from 6pm-7pm

Healthy fruits, herbs, and vegetables begin with the right soil! Come learn about the soil pH, what does lime do, type of fertilizer, conventional and organic. Learn, from agricultural extension agent George McCleary, how to perform a soil test and the benefits of earthworms, bacteria, and fungi in soil.

Master Your Garden from Seed to Harvest

Join us for a hands-on journey through the world of gardening with UConn Master Gardener, Eric Larson. This comprehensive program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully grow their own delicious and nutritious vegetables from seed to harvest. This program will focus on  different aspects of vegetable gardening, including seed starting, transplanting, fertilizing, and caring for vegetable plants.

Staying Safe Online with Mike Ingber

None of us wants to be the victim of identity theft, lose our important data, or find that our computer has become infected. In this class, we will talk about the threats that are lurking and how to do our best to stay safe online, from firewalls to phishing, social engineering to security software, ransomware to malware, backups to updates, and passwords to popups. We will discuss how to keep your computer protected, how to stay safe while browsing the internet, and how to recognize dangerous emails.

We will learn some basics of PowerPoint and Google Slides in order to create a presentation about ANYTHING! All you need is an idea for what you’d like to present about and we will create our slideshows together before giving everyone a chance to  present to the group!

Audio-Walking Club

Thursday 5/23 at 5pm

Lace up your sneakers, grab your headphones, and join us for a walk on the literary side! Use your smartphone to check out an audiobook on the Hoopla app, meet at the library where we will have water and healthy snacks, then go for a walk along Great Oak Road while you listen to your audiobook. When the hour is up, feel free to come back into the library to cool down & chat with fellow walkers about the books you listened to.

LEGO Challenge for Adults!

Thursday 5/30 at 5pm

Unleash your inner builder and tap into your creativity at our Adult LEGO Challenge Night! This unique event offers a fun and engaging opportunity for adults to rediscover the joy of LEGO building in a relaxed and social atmosphere.

Participants will have 40 minutes to build anything food  related out of Legos. At the end of the program, everyone will receive a photo of their LEGO Build to take home!
