This month's book: Neil Armstrong is My Uncle and Other Lies Muscle Man McGinty Told Me by Nan Marino.

A tender story about a tough-as-nails girl forced to take one small step towards understanding during the summer of 1969. Tamara Ann Simpson is determined to expose Muscle Man McGinty, a foster boy new to her neighborhood, for the liar that she knows he is. Muscle Man tells the other kids his uncle is Neil Armstrong and he even has the audacity to challenge the entire block to a kickball game. So, why is Tamara the only one who can see through this kid?

A monthly book club for kids in elementary school. Sign up in the Children's Library to get a copy of the book from the library. The first 15 kids who sign up will receive a FREE paperback copy of the book, generously provided by the Friends of the Pawtucket Public Library. When the free copies have been all given out, families can borrow a copy of the book from the library. Kids can read the book on their own or with someone else. All the readers are invited to attend the Book Club for Kids program on Saturday, Aug. 26th  at 11:00am in the Children’s Caidin Room to talk about favorite parts, play a trivia game, and make a craft.

A special thank you to the Friends of the Pawtucket Public Library for sponsoring the Book Club for Kids program.

"A study at Tufts University found that students who read to dogs have better outcomes than students who read to humans.

They experienced a slight gain in reading ability and attitudes toward reading, while those who read to people experienced a

decrease on both measures. Even more noticeable, there was no attrition in the dog group, while one third of those reading

to humans failed to complete the program"- Library Journal

"A study at Tufts University found that students who read to dogs have better outcomes than students who read to humans.

They experienced a slight gain in reading ability and attitudes toward reading, while those who read to people experienced a

decrease on both measures. Even more noticeable, there was no attrition in the dog group, while one third of those reading

to humans failed to complete the program"- Library Journal

"A study at Tufts University found that students who read to dogs have better outcomes than students who read to humans.

They experienced a slight gain in reading ability and attitudes toward reading, while those who read to people experienced a

decrease on both measures. Even more noticeable, there was no attrition in the dog group, while one third of those reading

to humans failed to complete the program"- Library Journal
